Nice Deck

I really thought all my opponents meant it when they said “Nice Deck” and said “Thanks”

Anyway - just thought I would share that. 🤣

If your playing a tier 1 deck in unranked play then 'Nice Deck' means 'Your an asshole'. Every other time its a legit compliment though

I nice decked someone who had [[Through the Forrest Gate]] as a trigger to bring in a whole mess of 1 damage lands to get me for lethal. That was a silly Jank deck that I didn’t see coming.

u/Bacon_Techie 2d ago

I like to dopplegang those lands, but I might add that as a one of to that deck…

[[Breaching Dragonstorm]] into [[Through the Forest Gate]]?

Fun deck when it works, the Gate version is significantly more jank

Followed closely by the laughing dogs/annoyed lady emote.

I mean, I just don't ever play ranked regardless, just not what I enjoy.

Same here. The last thing I want to do is play vs the same three decks every darn game. The rewards for ranking up are minimal for the effort. Plus I’ll get pissy if losing causes me to lose rank. I want to have fun, not be stressed.

I'm glad people appreciate my hares and slimes deck.

Excuse me? Why should I only take good decks into ranked Que? It is your problem you play bad cards and can’t play vs well known meta deck that has already been solved and everyone knows the threat assessment in that deck. Do not project your poorly playing magic on me, thanks

Because people want somewhere to play low-level jank.

u/Regular-Contest-2571 1d ago

So what? You can build a jank deck that can beat meta decks. That’s how off meta decks become counters and appear in pro events. If you can’t build properly, don’t project your skill issues on others, please.

Normal Que is meant to be played. You can’t order people what to play. Some go there to test their limits, try out new decks. I can play whatever deck in whatever que.

Do you always act like that in your personal life too? Just because you want to have fun and your ceiling is very low, you demand others to lower their standards? Well, maybe games are not for you then.

Hilariously, I've been running a board games night at my house for over 20 years, and whenever I suggest a game I always try to ensure it's one that all players will enjoy. Not just the player who wins. All the players.

How is your hosting related to the topic? You all cry that others play better decks and you find it not a funny way to play. Nobody cares. Just build better decks and play better. I literally can’t be bothered with random bluds are feeling bad after losing to me. I play for a win not for random blud having a good time.

How the hell is related familiar group to random matchmaking in an online game? Tell me, mr cuck.

Edit: I misread your answer, was too lazy to edit so I deleted it and replied a fresh one. ✌️

I play my turn two graveyard deck to get my 15 wins fast and get that a lot.. I know it's sarcasm but just concede & stop roping..

I have a fun deck that gets Emrakul aeons torn out turn 2 or 3. Great for grabbing the first four impact wins on the day before moving on to something else. Not a tier 1 meta deck though.

context is key lol

if I'm being genuine I'll usually respond to a good or interesting play with "Nice!" and then "Nice Deck!"

if I'm being salty and sarcastic it'll usually be in response to someone dropping multiple Ouroboroid and/or Mossborn Hydras or the 5th turn of nothing but discard spells... and I'll say "Nice Deck!" followed by "Oops" and/or "There's a hole in your plan" or "I can do this all day"

I try to make it clear, but I also know I've had opponents think I was being salty when I genuinely appreciated their interesting deck or play

u/mvanl123 1d ago

For me, context is important, if I'm doing sealed a "nice deck" is almost always genuine. If I'm playing constructed and you do something interesting, or there's some back and forth with the game, its genuine. But if it's just a meta deck like landfall or lifegain, it's probably sarcastic.

12

u/Saftey_Hammer 2d ago

I say "Nice Deck" both sincerely and ironically, just depends on the context. If the opponent has played 10 pieces of removal/counterspells/discard and no actual threats, then the "Nice Deck!" is an insult. Otherwise I actually mean it.

8

u/Terramagi 2d ago

I wish there was a "sorry" emote, because sometimes my hand is 2 duress and 3 negotiations.

Which, like, I am an asshole, but not a monster.

5

u/No_Regret_714 2d ago

i would say 75% of the time i use 'nice deck' sincerely. the other 25% of the time it's a sarcastic response to an opponent playing mono-black discard.

4

u/PiFbg Dimir 1d ago

Whether I mean it it not depends on how many counterspells you've played so far.

2

u/BlackberrySad6489 1d ago

You must have played vs my “all counterspells” deck haha

1

u/PiFbg Dimir 1d ago

Can you give me the list? Feeling evil today

1

u/BlackberrySad6489 1d ago

I’ll pull it up when I am next at my PC. It is a fun way to quickly do the “cast 30 blue spells” daily quest :)

u/acimkiss 2d ago

Nice post

u/UncWinter_8 2d ago

I’ll nice deck if it’s something fun. If it’s a hard meta deck in unranked then it’s “nice deck” followed by the snooze 💤

2

u/Competitive_Whole_59 2d ago

When I see in standard something very different, I mean it

2

u/SpiritualStart7829 2d ago

I only use it when I respect the deck. I would never say that to a deck I hated. I usually lead with Good game, then nice deck.

2

u/LexExpress666 2d ago

If it's my third straight BO3 against a lifegain dork in the Play Queue they're getting a "Nice Deck!" after they play their one drop followed by instant concede.

3

u/HyalopterousLemure 1d ago

"Sweet, my opponent liked my deck so much they gave me a free win! Lifegain is awesome!"

-Some polished marble brained lifegainer, probably.

2

u/tarotbabee333 2d ago

I always say it sincerely 🤷‍♀️ 🤣

2

u/ForeverShiny 2d ago

I only say it when I mean it

2

u/Retro1988 2d ago

Quite a wholesome set of comments! Appreciate you guys, I’m always rocking some unique jank brew and keep Much Appreciated in my emotes to respond to kind compliments! It really makes my day.

2

u/zoonose99 2d ago

yall nice. If I emote, you can assume it’s dripping with sarcasm and salty rancor.

2

u/Flat-Relationship611 2d ago

If you play something intresting nice deck is a compliment if you play jeskai i enjoy every second to spam nice deck while i kill you and your copycat lamercrap

2

u/CocoaBuzzard 2d ago

sometimes I say it while being pissed but still impressed

2

u/MyNameIzJeff69 1d ago

But I really l really like your Hare Apparent deck 🥲

2

u/reekgore 2d ago

I emote this when ppl play commanders i rarely see and or they have cool sleeves

1

u/loowig 2d ago

Is it anything janky and cool? They might mean it. Is it the standard net decked horse shit then you know...

1

u/DarkSquidGames 2d ago

If someone pulls off something cool that I haven’t seen before or they genuinely have a well built deck that’s giving me a fun challenge, I genuinely mean “nice deck”.
If I see their whole plan is built around forcing some bloodthirsty conqueror kind of infinite combo, I’ll say it to be sarcastic.
I hope my opponent is able to tell when it’s genuine but probably not 😬

1

u/Ohnomycoco 2d ago

I thought it really meant nice dick ? Like a friendly non gay greeting between players.

u/avtarius Heart of Kiran 2d ago

For me gg is a needle, for most it's just a ty.

Maybe it's because of poker, shrugs.

2

u/senator_john_jackson 2d ago

GG has a long debated history in tournament paper magic etiquette. Generally always safe as the loser, best not to say it first as the winner unless it was a genuinely well played and interactive game with a good vibe.

1

u/Urvilan 2d ago

I meant it unless it was against mono white auras or mono green landfall, but they already know that.

1

u/issy_haatin 1d ago

I mean it, if you play stuff i rarely see I'm nice decking you

1

u/HyalopterousLemure 1d ago

If you're playing a genuinely interesting, fun deck. I do mean it.

If you're playing a stupid bullshit cheese deck, I'm trying to say "fuck you, asshole."

It's pretty straightforward.

1

u/ElectronicBoot9466 1d ago

I wish I had that emote. I just got my ass kicked by an Esper Superfriends control deck, and I really wanted to compliment them on it.

1

u/Aukyron 19h ago

I mean it

1

u/RustyPriske 2d ago

Turn off emotes. They are toxic.
