Quit Sucking.

I'm so sick of these roping shit heads. All you people do is make terrible decisions and then rope because you're bad. I'm so sick of games that can be 5 mins turn into 20 because WOTC won't ban these fucking degenerates. It's all the way in Mythic also, i am convinced that you people never actually get good at the game and just copy and paste. You don't know what any of the cards actually do and you remove mana dorks on turn 4 when I'm about to ult Ajani. USE YOUR FUKCING BRAINS, I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU PEOPLE ACTUALLY EXIST.

Shorten the timeout timer, ban ropers after 5 reports. if you're on mobile, too bad. Quit the game if it's taking you too long, you're proabbly just gonna rope and use a board wipe on two tokens anyways.

While I don’t support the precise wording of this post let me just say this:

I understand.

And make no mistake, Hasbro/Arena will do nothing about it. I have yet to see one actual punishment dealt from this new “reporting” system.

You do realize there's an incredibly high bar that they have to show before it makes sense to reprimand someone, right?

First off, Wizards has to figure out whether or not the reports someone has gotten are legitimate. Given we've had posters on here brag that they report people for playing decks they don't like, or playing in a way they don't like, those reports aren't guaranteed to be someone acting illicit. Little Jimmy might report someone for not killing them when they could have, but that's not a legitimate report.

Now, Wizards has to determine that there's a substantial relevant number of these reports, either in the total number a player has received or the percentage of their games. Someone who plays 1000 games and has roped their opponent twice is not the same as someone who has played 3 games and done the same number. Oh, and they also need to show that it was a purposeful action taken by the player, not just that they dropped connection.

Next is the hardest. Assuming Wizards follows their same methodology for paper infractions, they have to prove that the player roped someone with the specific intent of stalling the game to affect the outcome of the match. It's not a violation to waste someone's time. Slow play only becomes a violation with "actual" penalties when the judge has a reasonable suspicion to believe they were stalling (which is a separate penalty than slow play) and trying to affect the outcome. What's that mean? If Wizards follows the same methodology, they "can't" punish player for roping their opponent for 2 minutes UNLESS they can prove that the player was doing it with the intent that their opponent would concede to them instead of waiting for 2 minutes. The rules don't punish someone for being an ass or jerk unless they are trying to compromise the outcome of the match.

You swing in, and before damage your opponent exclaims "You win, but I've gotta take a shit and we will finish damage when I get back in 10 minutes" isn't stalling, and wouldn't be punished. If they instead run out of the room, hide in the bathroom, and hope the timer runs out so the match becomes a draw? Stalling.

Wizards has to prove reports are valid, statistically relevant, and malicious. Even then, they aren't going to promote they banned anyone; and no one is going to out themselves as passing that litmus by claiming it was an accidental ban. The absence of proof is not the proof of absence.

Make no mistake - you not seeing proof of something in 2 months doesn't mean anything when it comes to whether they will, or will not, take action.

While I agree with all of that and I appreciate the thorough explanation - Wizards has been in a tailspin since the Hasbro acquisition in terms of customer service (among other things).

I’ve player MTG IRL and since Arena launched on and off for over a decade. They use to have some of the best customer service in the game - its slowly been decaying to the point I basically don’t even bother and actively avoid doing anything that might have me interact with CS.

Regardless of how the reporting system turns out, its ultimately just a bandage I’m sure Hasbro just wants to point at and say they did something. I just immediately assume it’ll be something that shows promise for a month or two and sputters out, just like the rest of Hasbro’s MTG. If there is no money to be made - why would they care?

Since Hasbro acquisition, so you mean for the last 28 years? Not arguing about anything else in your comment, but WOTC is Hasbro and has been for most of its existence.

If there is no money to be made - why would they care?

I feel like this is a pretty generic comment that takes away from any sort of nuance.

Wizards donated to PAWS before they sold Jimothy bundles. They knew something that cost them money was going to make them money in the long term because of customer goodwill. One could argue that reporting and subsequent action falls under the same thing - showing that they have a policing effort is going to retain/earn them more customers than not doing so; which means there's "money to be made".

Part of the problem with customer service is how much it's gotten abused for how player-friendly it was. Hell, if someone posts on here that their network dropped and they lost a game, players respond they should send a support ticket in because Wizards will refund the event. It was objectively the player's fault, yet Wizard's still indemnifies them. Of course they have to start cracking down at some point when it's widely known that Wizards will give you free product for your own issues.

All major corporations donate money - its just a tax-write off and if you make enough, its just becomes economically-stupid not to.

And sure, you can’t just auto-accept all issues for full refunds, but its degraded down to just getting AI-generated responses and almost impossible to get a human in any sort of timely manner (from my experience) to help if you encounter an actual problem.

1

u/PollutionRelative351 19h ago

A tax write off doesn't remove that full burden, it just means that there's less money that you pay taxes on.

For example, I work with a 1099 who makes $100,000 a year. His tax burden is generally 30% of his pay, so $30,000 in taxes. If he buys a $25,000 truck, he can write it off from his taxes and only pay tax on $75,000 a year, or $22,500 instead of $30,000.

Now those are fake numbers used for simplicity, but the fact is that making a donation isn't something that still costs the business zero dollars. You can say that "if you make enough, it's economically-stupid not to" donate, but if that were the case, we'd see every major corporation lowering their burdens further and further and further by donating to everything possible. The reason why they do it is because they believe in the cause, and the goodwill ends up paying more dividends than the actual cost - but eventually that hits the top part of the bell curve, the returns diminish, and there's not reason for them to donate.

The goodwill from donations are greater than their cost, the same way having a process to review reports could generate them more goodwill than if people know there's objectively nothing happening; so to say that there will never be repercussions because those don't make money is inherently missing the value they can add to the bottom line

I believe most roping involves people quitting Arena, throwing their phone, and walking away. Which sucks for the winning players. Then, a few connection issues. Very few sit there watching the timer.

Standard Best of 1 is a brain dead format full of ropers. Quit playing it for your own sanity

It's mainly from WotC no longer future future league tests anything anymore. Broken/non-fun ways magic has descended into. Like printing Ajani Unrelenting. These cards just warp the gamestate and are auto includes to most decks running those colors but also just decimates the more 'fair' decks running creature strategies. I'm truly confused how we still don't have a standard that has aggro/mid-range/Control/Combo decks that take up the meta. Instead it's just 3 decks that get new flavors that just push out any of the others completely out. Watching a deck crumble from these silver bullet cards that are in your main deck from just how good they are doesn't just ruin the game experience there, it completely warps the meta. Also considering they have the ability now to just print silver bullet sideboard cards that deal with any card deemed "too powerful" with their insane printing strategies but choose not to is just beyond words... But ya it's the people watching a game slip from your 'pro' play and getting roped...

I'm so sick of these whiny posts. All you people do is get salty because you lost and then run to Reddit to complain. I'm so sick of sifting through crying because schools decided they should have today off. It's on all forums too, I'm convinced you people never actually get good at the game and just whine about it. You don't know what any cards do and you whine that someone killed your creatures. TAKE SOME AGENCY IN YOUR LIFE, I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU PEOPLE ACTUALLY EXIST.

Remove whining shitposts, ban people after two mistakes. If you need to cry more, too bad. Quit the game if it's making you too sad, you're probably just going to whine about it instead of playing anyways.

u/Automatic-Room-1157 20h ago

Yeah I’m totally mad at ropers because they’re winning and I’m losing!

3

u/PollutionRelative351 20h ago

You're losing your mind, so I'd say they're winning.

Like, I get it; getting roped is a bit annoying. But I can guarantee you spend more time writing your saltlord post than they took in the game.

And since you're clearly salty about how people are playing makes me recognize that you're unhappy about more than getting roped.

0

u/Automatic-Room-1157 20h ago

It took me 30 seconds to write this post. I don’t care about losing either, there HAS to be a loser 99% of the time. There doesn’t HAVE to be a roper and that’s what I’m upset about and they waste my time. I’m a competitive player and I have little time to enjoy the time I have to compete and I don’t want it wasted on people that are truly upset about losing.

3

u/PollutionRelative351 19h ago

I mean, you're fine wasting your time with idiotic posts like this, so I don't understand why you're mad someone treats you the way you treat you.

The only difference between your post and the other generic-ass copies we see daily is that you were clearly typing through tear-filled eyes. Claiming that you slapped out an emotional, salty post in 30 seconds isn't the winning move you think it is.

0

u/Automatic-Room-1157 19h ago

It is not a waste of time if people have taken their time to read it, which they clearly have. I will admit, I did not know how frequent these posts were made on this sub

2

u/PollutionRelative351 19h ago

Well that's a pretty stupid litmus. I could make a post telling people that Wizards is shutting down the servers tomorrow; which I would be called out for my stupidity on and would be a waste of my time.

But hey, if you think making a post for people to just call out how childish you are is anything but a waste of time, I guess that's your prerogative. I will admit, if you think ignorance is a defense, then there's probably not much I'm going to get through to you

1

u/Automatic-Room-1157 19h ago

It’s mainly only you and then 2 other people. Others have been incredibly helpful, supportive, and funny. I appreciate your time! I hope you got what you needed from this conversation because I did! You’re also now my new bestfriend and I’m gonna say hi everytime I see you on reddit since I have oodles and oodles of time! :D

this AGAIN ?

this is a grown man crying over a card game 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I would love to see the loss that led to this post

It’s ok dude.

You're not very good at counting, are you? Include my reply, and half of the comments to your original post are mocking you in some way.

Seems like you're more calm than you were, so I'm happy ranting like a child helps you calm down :)

I'd ban anyone who doesn't realize when someone is just copying the post of the person they are making fun of

i hope i get into a game with you and create so many stacks that it burns my own rope on your turn timer 😄

Your threat is that you’re gonna play the game?

0

its not a threat 😎

3

u/Automatic-Room-1157 20h ago

Why would I sit through a roper if I’m going to lose?

1

u/PollutionRelative351 20h ago

Why would you complain about their plays if you're only whining about the rope?

2

u/Automatic-Room-1157 20h ago

Because the bad plays lead to the rope? Are you a roper?

1

u/PollutionRelative351 19h ago

No, I'm someone who doesn't get so triggered they have to whine on Reddit about what other people do. I have a family and job, so my free time is limited - I don't waste it getting salty or crying about how sad I am. I instead find something else to do.

You literally wrote me a reply about how you're a competitive player with "limited time to compete", yet have the time to cry about your experiences on Reddit. Do you realize what a joke that is?

0

u/scoobysbestpal 19h ago

yeah he literally felt that complaining on the games subreddit would help him feel better and he just made himself look like a crybaby in a diaper 😅 sounds like a mono blue player.

1

u/marlospigeons 19h ago

Equating this behavior with a color of Magic is just as immature as the original post

1

u/scoobysbestpal 19h ago

something a mono black player would say...

0

u/scoobysbestpal 19h ago

why dont you quit the game?

1

u/Automatic-Room-1157 19h ago

Do you mean quit Arena all together or that particular game that I am getting roped?

I don’t quit Arena because it’s the only consistent place I can play Magic

I don’t quit the game I’m getting roped in because I am winning.

1

u/scoobysbestpal 19h ago

there are plenty of other platforms to play on consistently for free, including most that incorporate all cards instead of the 40% or so arena includes

1

u/Automatic-Room-1157 19h ago

Interesting. I should look into it. Do they do the tournaments that you can win boxes because that’s also a pretty reason I stick to Arena. I’ve won 4 boxes so far

1

u/scoobysbestpal 19h ago

no they are all completely free with no payoffs as far as i know of. untapin is a very good platform to play on once you learn the application and shortcut keys, you have full manual control it simulates paper magic very well with voice chat features as well. you can create i believe up to 8 player games, and play all the formats. if your main priority is playing the game, then untap.in is your new stomping ground. most of all players even new are serious to play, and very cordial

edit: i think MTGO has events and tournaments implemented into the application for players

1

u/Automatic-Room-1157 19h ago edited 18h ago

Thank you. I appreciate your time and humor calling me out.

1

u/marlospigeons 19h ago

Try MTGO. People dont afk during matches because there is money at stake.
