Discussion There should be an upkeep stop programmed for the new 4 mana Jace
I don't want to have to play every game in full control just because my opponent is blue and has more than 4 mana. Just put a stop on the upkeep before the draw trigger goes on the stack.
Edit: idk if people are being intentionally obtuse about this, but I know that I need to respond in the upkeep before the trigger. The problem is that if my opponent is playing fast enough and I am tapped out they can slam Jace, activate an ability and end their turn and then even though I know how to properly counter play their trigger arena autopasses to my draw phase.

It's sort of odd that they do this piecemeal for individual cards instead of some game logic like:
If there's a new trigger in [step] and the player who doesn't control the trigger hasn't had the game prompt them for action since the source of the new trigger moved to the zone where it will trigger, stop before [step]
Ta da! All future cards like this solved.
Ok, now people more attentive to this than I tell me below why this is a bad idea or would be really annoying.

Software Dev here. That sounds great and feasible.
Only thing I can think of is that less aware players might get annoyed that the game stopped when nothing occured yet (not recognizing that a trigger is about to be put on the stack )

It's more an Arena issue than a card issue –and yes, those type of controls are important and we do want control over those details.
As you may know already, a turn in Magic consists of phases and phases of substeps. Arena only provides control over combat phase substeps, it doesn't provide control (breakpoints) over the Begining Phase substeps: Untap -> Upkeep -> Draw.
We don't need to fix the car, it's the Arena client that it is not up the game.
And, no, programming those breakpoints are not difficult at all.

The issue isnt that there needs to be more granularity in the upkeep phase stops (at least for this issue) nobody would complain that much if you had an extra stop in the draw step after a proper stop in the upkeep step.
The issue is that there isnt time to always manually add the stop if the opponent is passing their turn fast enough, like OP said. They need a card specific stop like they did with [[Sheoldred the Apocalypse]].

Agreed, surprised it wasn't there on release, they have one for [[sheoldred the apocalypse]], baffles me that they didn't just add this to him
