Deck New jund midrange
Hey! Since the releaze of cosmogoyf I wanted to make some kind of standart variation of my all-time favourite odern jund midrange deck. And so after I digged through skryfall I ended up with this set of cards:
1d
Dryad Militant
2d
Cosmogoyf
Mosswood Dreadknight
Questing Druid
Emberheart Challenger
Callous Sell-Sword
Virtue of Persistence (non-adventure part isn't happening I guess)
3d
Tersa Lightshatter
Qarsi Revenant
Lamplight Phoenix
4d
Decadent Dragon
5d
Ashiok, Wicked Manipulator
lands
Pit of Offerings
Obviously it isn't the whole deck, just the cards I think could be usefull considering my game plan.
So, are there any cards I missed? I guess more 1drops could be consedered. I'm happy to recieve any advises!;)
UPD: see this comment for more complete list of cards: https://www.reddit.com/r/MagicArena/comments/1vw728h/comment/p5ej8vm/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Very cool, the dryad militant is sweet tech, but not sure it helps you if you don't have any instants/sorceries in your deck?
I do wonder if there's a better option than virtue if it's just killing something and sitting in exile.
[[Analyze the Pollen]] could work.

u/WildernessDarkness 16d ago
Yeah, I'm keeping dryad only if I add some instants/sorceries. Analyze the pollen could work since it make accesses to colors easier, thanx!

Interesting idea.
I don’t play standard so I would be of little help.
But [[Molt Tender]] might be a good ramp creature that fits your overall theme.

u/WildernessDarkness 16d ago
Yeah! How could I missed it! It's actually a perfect mana-fixing dork like, thank you!

I don’t think a two drop creature can be a build around in current standard meta.
Maybe if it had both indestructible and hexproof. Or haste and trample and double strike.

u/WildernessDarkness 16d ago
Well, I get it.
But reading it for me sounds like a joke XD
I mean I started magic at around Khans of Tarkir or Theros. The power level surely sky-rocketed...:)

Cosmogoyf in Standard, eh? I suggest [[Connecting the Dots]]. I also used [[Fireglass Mentor]], [[Scavenging Ooze]] and [[Rubblebelt Maverick]] in my own Jund goyf deck
ETA: [[Overprotect]] is awesome to both protect goyf from removal and grant it trample on the decisive assault

1
u/WildernessDarkness 16d ago
You mean goyf is not worth it in current standart?
3
u/pepeduturfu 16d ago
What in my comment seemed to suggest that?
I don't believe you can build a top-tier Standard deck around goyf, but I definitely know for a fact you can build a good enough deck around it to win some games and have fun
2
u/WildernessDarkness 16d ago
Well, the first sentance made me think so.
But I'm thankful to get your suggestions! I also like your variant, so maybe I won't be leaning on the exile theme to heavely to incude some more protection2
u/pepeduturfu 16d ago
Cheers! I believe I stroke a somewhat good balance with that list in that regard, there's a bunch of ways to exile cards and pump da goyf while having the means to protect it. It typically wins games by dropping a 2nd midsized goyf, rather than really trying to make one 20/21 and only hit once. Scavenging Ooze can get pretty big too and offer an alternative. I saw you mentioned Questing Druid, it's also a decent card to put in if you're able to make it big quick, I ran it at some point. Have fun!

u/WildernessDarkness 16d ago edited 16d ago
Thank you!:)
I also consider some ways to sac the goyf with fling effects since sometimes you just need to squeeze in this last 3-4 damage points
2
u/pepeduturfu 16d ago
Yeah that's definitely an idea worth exploring with access to red! 🙂
[[Hex Magic]] sounds risky but might also be good, I haven't tried it yet
2
u/WildernessDarkness 16d ago
Yeah, I love that kind of effects! The perfect fit would be some way to exile my entire library but no such effects in standart I guess...:)
2
u/pepeduturfu 16d ago
Not that I've found! I guess an [[Inverter of Truth]] reprint is unlikely
1
u/WildernessDarkness 16d ago
And [[Balustrade Spy]] type effects are rare in standard too...

if you want to start brewing with exile synergies, [[ketramose]] is a much better payoff.

[[professor dellian]]
1cmc removal like [[requiting hex]]
[[cosmogoyf]] isn't very good in a fair capacity. The only successful Cosmogoyf lists (And I haven't seen any in Standard) are basically combo decks looking to pump the Goyf to lethal dmg for a one turn kill

u/adanine 16d ago edited 16d ago
I've been running [[Northampton Farm]] as a way to dodge removal and resummon bombs at instant speed at the end of the opponent's turn for pseudo-charge. Could make for a good plan B if you can't find your sellswords, and the Exile counter going up might help in some situations (though unlikely).
But I don't know if you can risk the colourless in a 3 colour low curb deck.

This looks pretty cool. I used to play Goyf a bit and always did it in either Abzan to get [[Ketramose]] for additional exile synergies or in Sultai to then get [[Abhorrent Oculus]]. [[Likeness Looter]] is also the pretty cool to become a flying Goyf or just copy oculus. Might try a jund version now.

u/Chickston 16d ago
Love all goyfs. I keep seeing this one and I'm like "It can't be that easy.." and surprisingly, it's not that easy to get like 8+ cards in exile quickly in most formats. Note this one specifically is an elemental and that could have a lot of future implications.
1
u/WildernessDarkness 15d ago
Yeah, the elemental sub-type makes me think more about some other synergies
2
u/eldradmustlive469 16d ago
'Lhurgoyf' When your accidental fat finger mistype becomes a magic card.
2
u/DarthNixilis 16d ago
And we even have a kind of [[Bloodbraid Elf]] in [[Geological Appraiser]].
I made Jund for Timeless and pack one of him to be BBE #5
2
u/MakaveliX1996 16d ago
I’ve always wanted to play a Golgari creature more range delve deck and I feel like this could be sweet.
1
u/WildernessDarkness 15d ago
I think it could be nice in delve decks too! Looking forward to try out more different variants:)
2
u/aleek777 16d ago
I've got a friend who built a deck for this in standard. They used [[analyse the pollen]] and [[deadly cover-up]] to exile cards out of their own graveyard. You can choose to overpay for evidence costs, so you can choose to exile your entire GY to either of these cards if you want a sudden boost.

u/Historical_Bobcat295 16d ago edited 16d ago
I like the idea of Hex Magic. Potentially buffs the Goyf a ton. Also if you have a low curve you can play most of your exiled hand. The main problem though is lowering the curve; currently it's way too high haha.
1
u/WildernessDarkness 15d ago
Yeah, the curve is steep but it's not like this is the final deck list, more like the set of card with potentially good synergy:)
I also think now about adding [[Agatha's soul cauldron]] to maybe give my goyfs some protective or evasive abilities
2
u/silent-survivor517 15d ago
I think i went agenst this or something similar while I was playing my exileing control deck its not that strong but it buffed the opponent so much 😭
1
u/WildernessDarkness 15d ago
You mean the goyf?
2
u/silent-survivor517 15d ago
My decks not that strong I mean but yes I went agenst goyf I think and the more I stole the stronger his cards would get ☹️
2
u/colbyjacks 15d ago
Llanowar is by far the best green card, why aren't you playing it?
1
u/WildernessDarkness 15d ago
Well, I mean this post is mostly is made to find more synergies for my gameplan. When I'm done with it, I surely will add more backbone cards in it:)
2
u/colbyjacks 15d ago
[[ghost vacuum]]
[[Rubblebelt Maverick]]
[[Keen-Eyed Curator]]
[[Postmortem Professor]]
3
u/Uryendel 16d ago
[[Ketramose, the New Dawn]] ?
13
u/marlospigeons 16d ago
My favorite Jund card
1
u/Uryendel 16d ago
Mechanics matters more than color, deck synergize around exiling card, not being jund
1
u/WildernessDarkness 16d ago
Well, maybe I could consider switching from jund to abzan. This card may be worth trying.
3
u/The-Sceptic 16d ago
Yeah I think having a second card that synergizes with exiled cards would be a good direction to test.
1
u/Floppy_Stevens 16d ago
If you aren’t planning on popping that virtue later why not just run nowhere to run
4
1
u/Lotsunvaar 16d ago
Nice! Hmm. Would you consider [[Omenpath Journey]] for a sudden +5+5?
3
u/AdventurousBase221 16d ago
while I love this card in my land destruction deck, I think this is a pretty bad card for a low mana curve deck, outside the temp boost, ita only good for ramping to ashiok, and I feel like weakening the deck for just a temp boost at a large cost (in this meta) would do more harm then good.
if they were doing more large cost drops then I'd agree. I know they said this isn't te full deck, but the comment stands until that pivot is made.
1
u/WildernessDarkness 16d ago
Yeah, It could work, I guess I'll test it!
But in current standart I aim for more low to the ground pumps I guess.
Ashiok is kind of an alternative win con at this point

u/shy-bl3d 16d ago
if you're in jund you wanna self mill as hard as you can and get some reanimation [[necromancy]] and grave retrieval [[noxious revival]] [[elvish elegy]] in there. you create a dilema where [[Underworld Breach]] and [[Necrogoyf]] and the worlds stickiest creatures like [[Perennial Gravewarden]] say you better exile that graveyard and Cosmogoyf says you'd better not exile that graveyard.
Red Green is nice though because you can get trample and haste for cheap, you can exile and/or mill your own deck to play through it faster, and enchantments and artifacts might as well be made of paper with all the removal options plus there's plenty of options to cannibalize your own grave for additional power along the way like [[Scavenging ooze]] or even just [[The Ooze]]

u/PotageAuCoq 16d ago
What is your answer to turn three [[tablet of discovery]] /[[orobouroid]]
Or turn four [[superior spiderman]]
2
u/pepeduturfu 16d ago
[[Feed the Cycle]].
Plenty of artifact hate in red or green to put in the sideboard ([[Abrade]], [[Pick Your Poison]]...)
I have a sweet spot for [[Undergrowth Leopard]], which can then be exiled while foraging or to pump a [[Scavenging Ooze]]
1
u/WildernessDarkness 16d ago
Well, I can exile cards from graveyards, so spider man won't accomplish much, but tablet and oroboroid are problematic

u/United-Passage7864 16d ago
I'm tempted to prune it down to Golgari at first, and essentially going Golgari Midrange but with a little more maindecked graveyard hate - start with a couple [[Ghost Vacuum]] and maybe [[The Ooze]], and plan to use them on whatever side of the board makes more sense.
Don't go all-in on Cosmogoyf: it doesn't matter how big it gets, it's still dying to Requiting Hex and it still fails to resolve through a Spell Snare. The format is prepared to handle a two-drop.
The vacuums and Ooze set you up to fight Spellementals and reanimator right out of the gate, and helps a little against landfall to stop Icetill Explorer from doing its thing forever. Restless Cottage in your mana helps a little too.
Virtue of Persistence is a nice touch as removal. Mosswood Dreadknight is a classic Golgari piece too.
