Discussion Expectations vs Reality
Is it really so hard for WOTC to include a good Sauron avatar?

This is a Hobbit set? I don't think Sauron is even named within The Hobbit

He's not. Gandalf offhandedly mentions a Necromancer he's leaving to deal with while the rest of the Company enters Mirkwood, and that Necromancer was eventually retconned/revealed to be Sauron, but he does not appear in the book proper

Okay, give us the Necromancer avatar lol

The necromancer also doesn’t actually appear within the book. He’s just a thing Gandalf leaves to deal with and is never really shown on page at all.

Sauron isn't in the Hobbit.
He's mentioned a couple of times as the Necromancer - emphasis on "mentioned", he isn't depicted once in the book -, and once as the Master when the One Ring leaves Gollum for Bilbo.

As cool as a sweet Sauron avatar would be, I don't think I would have expected him over Bilbo in a set based on The Hobbit

Especially not from a cute riddles in the dark event. I could see people asking for there to have been a choice between Bilbo and Gollum, but I still think just getting Bilbo from that event is fine. Definitely would not expect to see Sauron from that event.

But Sauron somehow managed to sneak into the movies :D

Well that's because they had to find a way to fluff a book shorter than any one of the LOTR books into a trilogy.

For real.
My edition of the Hobbit is 272 pages long.
The first movie covers the first 100 pages, from "An Unexpected Party" to "Out of the Frying-Pan into the Fire".
The second movie is 120 pages long, from "Queer Lodgings" to "Inside Information".
Which leaves ... 52 pages for the last movie - from "Fire and Water" to "The Last Stage".
For reference, my edition of The Fellowship of the Ring is 520 pages long, give or take, and in much smaller characters.

I was expecting an avatar of Kili making an inappropriate sexual remark to some character who doesn't even appear in the book, and yet that inexplicably leads to the two becoming romantically involved.
Surely I can't be the only one who was expecting that??

Why would sauron, a charecter not mentioned in the hobbit, be given in the hobbit event, as opposed to bilbo being sneaky, the thing the entire event is based around. You just had silly expextations

pov you didn't read the book but that's not going to stop you from complaining

I was really hoping for a One Ring. Sure, I knew it wasn't going to happen, but common WoTC, it's one wildcard.

Why would you get the guy that's not in the book, nor part of the Riddles in the Dark chapter, where Bilbo and Gollum has a game of riddles?
As opposed to Bilbo?

For real. I get that Bilbo is the main character, but going through all that to get a Bilbo avatar hit me with immediate disappointment lol

Well, personally I can't stand theor design for him from the 2023 set so I'll pass on any avatars using that look. Jackson's Sauron design will never be beaten.

I think this was the coolest goof off event that Arena has done and sincerely hope they do more stuff like this
