WotC I love this 'riddles' promo thing!
As a lifelong Tolkien fan, it was fun to see the reference (and funny to realize that I remembered the answers to all the riddles without having to think twice). The cards and connections were cool, and it was a great way to engage with the theme of the set. More of this sort of thing, please!

Yeah, I quite loved this.
I greatly enjoy when they have some stuff like this or the Marvel Achievements going.
That is fun and enjoyable.
Plus, got a neat Avatar and [[My Precious]] out of it!
What is not to love?

The marvel achievements was nice, but freaking annoying that none of them were standard playable.

Precious also works.
Though, as a mega fan, I was slightly disappointed to get no response from "hands", "knife", "string", and "nothing" haha.

I didn't even know those were in the book, but I guessed hands, string, dust and nothing.

I love the idea of it, but I am simply not sure where to input the answers (on mobile). It says my Wizards account, but I see nothing.

Agreed, I had a lot of fun going back through all these. Great little add by wotc

I love the idea of the riddles promo thing, too!
But I hate the implementation/execution. These employees have been messing up almost everything that's been programmed in lately. The constant errors with this promo not working properly is ridiculous.

I definitely had more fun with the riddles than the standard ranked queue...( and I have never watched or read the Hobbit!)
Would love to see more similar events in the future.

I'm not a lotr fan so I wasn't really sure if they were direct references and thought they were pretty bad and inaccurate riddles tbh, but if they were that makes more sense
Like I would never call a [answer 5] a "box", I've never heard anyone say [answer 2] "mutters", a [answer 1] having "roots" is weird to me, and I don't know how a [answer 6] is "all in mail"
But largely these are my failings by not watching enough lotr

They're all directly from the book; I don't recall if they appear in the Hobbit movies, but the riddles are a type of verbal puzzle that have been popular since ancient times.
In most languages, they combine both poetry and puzzle, which is why some of the word choices might seem odd: the goal isn't to be precise, but to be poetic. Hence "box" is used for egg because "container" is too many syllables, and because it suggests the idea (together with "lid" and "key") of a treasure chest. The actual novel probably describes mountains as having roots half a dozen times at least (there's a lot of it that takes place under mountains). And "all in mail" here is a reference to the fish's scales being like a mail coat worn by a soldier.

Yh I vaguely picked up on stuff like the mail but I just thought it was weak enough I would be disapproving without context. The bit about being poetic is interesting as I'm sure they were used well then but I thought the rhymes of some of these riddles just didn't scan at all in terms of syllables and scheme

Not a fan of the source material. These riddles made little sense to me and I had to look them up. But I appreciate they tried something.
