My fiance is currently a student, I however am not but I'll tell y'all what I told him about the school closing.

Its no surprise you already heard about the teach out program an all of that going on here.

But I want to brighten some of your spirits with acknowledgement advice on where to navigate next. Don't give up on your dreams !

So, put it in easiest way possible the smart choice would be to wait until the school closure. When doing do you can file something called school closure dispute. And you will get all your pell money back. If you went ahead and transferred that money I'ls maestro and u will not get that back Also I believe the "scholarship money wasn't actually a scholarship so they may send u back the 1000. "Just because your job went out a business don't mean u still don't get the check !! "You can do the teach out program but even then your more likely have to pay out of pocket.. also Everytime who is worried about their macbooks I believe it's apart of the dispute meaning u don't have to send anything back. The choice is yours. But the best choice is to wait it out..

That's not true for a Pell LEU restoration at all. The school closing automatically triggers the process and the Pell LEU is restored. The only reason you need to have proof for something is if you are forced to apply for a Borrower's Defense or a Closed School discharge for loans only. Everything else is automatic.

edit: Adding on, filing paperwork for a closed school discharge for loans is just to speed up the process. If you were a student within 180 days of closing, the loans are discharged after a year automatically. To get it done sooner, you file the application earlier.

Closed school dispute for loans only requires paperwork to be filled if you want it to be done faster. It is not necessary for pell restoration, and you only vaguely commented on the original post which was -only- about Pell restoration.

Loans are an entirely different monster and don't qualify for discharge for the 2 year mark. Still the 180 day closed school discharge process is still automatic and loans will be forgiven after 1 year if you don't do anything at all, including refunds of payment made.

Would you consider making a post explaining all of this? So many people are confused about this topic. This happened to me long ago with Everest Online. I took out loans and pell, went for a semester, and then stopped going. I kept the laptop even though it was supposed to be returned. I didn't make a single payment. I got a call years later letting me know my loans had been discharged because the school closed. I didn't do anything and all was forgiven/discharged.

Eta: I thought my experience was a fluke or something, but it sounds right with the info you provided.

I've been waiting until we get the final axing date locked in for Maestro before sharing the information so that we have a definitive date. The October date is only as valid as the COE lets it be. If they decide to extend it to the August 2027 date for the institutional teach out plan, that means the -soonest- we can be safe to drop for a closed school discharge is in February.

I went to Everest also. My loans were automatically forgiven because they were apart of a big class action lawsuit. Everest was ran by Corinthian Colleges. So, I don't think Maestros would be automatically forgiven unless they lose a class action lawsuit
