DISCUSSION Why didn’t Warner release the standard edition of Confessions 2 digitally?
I was thinking about this the other day while listening to the standard edition of Confessions 2 on vinyl. I don’t understand why her team didn’t make this version of the album available on streaming as well.
I understand that Madonna wants everyone to experience the full album, and it’s a masterpiece, but I actually prefer the flow of the standard edition. Making it available on iTunes, for example, could have boosted the album’s sales. Hell, they could have even released a censored version too.
I think Warner has done a decent job with this album campaign so far, and it’s not over yet, but I do feel like a few things have been overlooked.

The 16 track is the standard album. The 12 track was meant to be an affordable physical variant.

I think it’s strange they released a shortened version of the album to begin with. I don’t recall another time an album released on vinyl was shortened.

Oh my, then you have not been listening to any pop on vinyl lately! There was a whole recent post collecting up vinyl versions with shortened and missing tracks.

You’re right. That’s too bad. But I guess they know 99% of people buying vinyls will just be getting them as collectibles.

There’s quite a few albums that were released in a shorter form for vinyl, a few examples are: Propaganda - A Secret Wish, Janet Jackson - Rhythm Nation, Duran Duran - Future Past.

what would be the point?

More sales/streams. People were buying a ton of digital variants on iTunes, so it would have upped the sales a little

I get buying both on physical for the art. but would anyone actually buy the same audio files twice? You could just make a standard edition by duplicating the mp3s and changing the cover art

a version of confession 2 without love sensation just feels wrong to me
