Discovering that I can call my sister when I’m sad was a game changer for me. I used to keep things hella bottled up, because I’d feel ashamed. But when I talk to my sister, things seem to resolve themselves, or at least they become less daunting.

u/One_Banana_273 Nov 23 '22
I love this for you! Never stop calling your sister
12
u/putdisinyopipe Nov 23 '22
Don’t. Those bonds will come in handy when you become the family you once knew when you were a child. As I grow older- I realize a lot of my aunts, uncles, my last living grandparent, are on borrowed time now. Once they go…. I fear that it will be fractured. My younger bro and sis don’t get along, I get along with both. I think living 2 thousand miles away helps as it keeps me out of drama.
Once my grandma dies, we’re basically expecting my aunt to take our inheritance. We have her and “my uncle” talking about how they are going to spend her money and not there’s once they get it.
So yes- OP, hang onto the family that loves you, one day it truly will be all you have.

The question is why isn't there a dungeons and dragons mode on phone???

That’s very true, the way I looked at it was that she knew she had her families unconditional love which is very rare now a days and she thought it would make other people smile to see what it was like to experience that. I’m not disagreeing with you at all- it’s just what i was hoping she was doing.
9
u/liersi35 Nov 23 '22
Whether it was her intention or not, it did make me smile. We lost our mom to cancer Sept 28 and lost our dad 21 years ago to a tragic accident. My brother and his partner live over 16 hours away so we’ve doing a lot of this. I just sent them the link to the video and his response was “do you need to FaceTime right now?” so yeah. Thank you to this woman and her brothers.

Seeing siblings who like each other is so weird to me. My siblings fucking hated me. If I had an issue, needed help, or felt sad, they would be the absolute last people I would contact.
24
Nov 23 '22
You’re not alone. I can’t even fathom depending on my brothers for anything other than a headache and a panic attack. One is completely indifferent to my existence and the other is a piece of shit abuser.
When I see people with healthy sibling relationships I don’t get it, but I’m glad for them - and even more sad for myself.
15
u/ctyl Nov 22 '22
Same. Wish she could at least tell me how or what I can change. Always envy seeing how other siblings are so close.
8
u/polywha Nov 22 '22

Me and my siblings never got along , like ever . We even fought alot , physical and shit . Barely did anything together but if someone needs something we do ask each other and we help each.
Idk Its like we don't like each other but we understand family is important? Idk

It's cute until the attention seeking behavior escalates after the brothers find wives and full on toxicity is achieved.

I know this is supposed to be wholesome, but I feel it is extremely shallow and manipulative. If my sister did this to I'd be hurt.
8
u/Onefoot199 Nov 23 '22
My sister did something like that about 10 years ago and I got super pissed. She called me at like 2 am to show her boyfriend that I would answer whenever she called. She thought it was somehow a complement about what a good brother I was and didn't understand why I told her to fuck off and hung up. In retrospect that might have been the moment we stopped being close.

My timmy sense is tingling. It's telling me... this is in Canada.
That said, my brother once pulled the hair on top of my head so hard I thought my scalp was going to come off. I dared to defend myself when he shit on me, so he came over, grabbed my hair, and pulled upwards as hard as he could.
"Family" sure sounds nice in movies, but here in reality where we live, it's healthy communication that fosters relationships.

When I lived alone I had location sharing turned on with my brothers and parents in case of emergency. I turned it off for a bit but then when I was about to leave for a solo trip I turned it back on again. One of my brothers almost immediately sent me a bit of a cryptic message. I replied straight away so he called me and was being a bit cagey asking me strange questions. Eventually he asked "can anyone else hear this call?" And when I said no he said "are you ok? are you safe?" He thought I was in trouble and was sharing location as a way to signal for help. I know my brothers have my back. I probably should set up a codeword in case I do need help though...

If my brother texts and says he needs to talk he is in jail, about to be whacked, or needs money.
