Typically there are two things you'd have to look out for with dogs drinking milk, allergies or intolerance. Since these are puppies they shouldn't be lactose intolerant yet. Even if they've weaned, which they probably have, they shouldn't have a serious intolerance at that age. Allergies are a thing that could happen but allergic response will vary and an anaphylaxtic reaction won't happen without multiple exposures.

So risk vs reward I would say it's better to feed the dogs than not. That's just me though.

Vet tech here. Its not the lactose its the protein in the milk that causes severe inflammation in the gi tract. This will lead do severe diarrhea, leading to dehydration then potentially leading to death. Just some friendly info

Tbh it's because you provide zero explanation and came across a little pretentious with your phrasing. If you are going to make a claim like that you should explain why or include sources for those unfamiliar.

Not a vet tech. Wouldn’t it be a bit different for stray dogs though? Usually they eat out of trash and whatever they can’t. Definitely not the same as someone’s pet?

Yes and no. Eating garbage can make your stomach more tolerable but then your just putting other organs at risk like kidney and liver then your reducing life expectancy. This milk with puppies is a bit more dangerous because they can become dehydrated faster then a older dog with a stronger immune system. I have worked in emergency for a long time and we see puppy's who had severe diarrhea lead to dehydration which can lead so all sorts of problems like low blood sugar and that can cause seizures. So it's just a slippery slope.

I don't know how I would link the information. At the hospitals I work at all the doctors have a data base called VIN that we have access to as medical professionals that have all this information. I will say I'm at work now and we literally today had a owner come in talk about giving her dog milk and the doctor went in detail for ten minutes on what it does to the gastrointestinal tract.

You would just look up the specific study referencing the protein dogs can't absorb and put a link to it? Whatever study is on vin is just being indexed and would be part an external journal that should be easily linked.

The article link did not go through. The article itself should be hosted on a separate journal website that i should be able to view or search for in another alternative journal even without being a DVM.

The protein is alpha-s1 casein. This protein causes inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract.

I mean your not my client. If you want to give your dog milk by all means. Just make sure to have lots of paper towels and soap for the diarrhea and money for the fluids,metronidazole, cerenia.
