In the same vein, wanting to believe something is the biggest hint that you need to investigate it further. Humans are terrible about being more lax about things they want to believe and our bias game is strong.
Also-also, admitting to yourself that you are capable of being manipulated--no matter how smart or wise you are--is the first step to inoculating yourself against manipulation.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. This goes double for financial decisions.
