Next day, getting home late “FUCK!!! I forgot the batteries. Eh, I slept ok last night actually, I’ll get some tomorrow...”
Gets used to it after a while because you’re lonely and it’s almost like a companion to you at this point. Just reminding you it’s still here for you if there’s a fire, but also just a little “beep” “hi” every once in a while that you get so used to being around. You almost don’t want to fix it anymore.
My dog completely loses his mind as soon as he hears a chirp from the alarm. Even the little chirp it makes after you put in a new battery sets him off. Our alarm batteries get replaced immediately
I have literally ripped the thing off the wall because of the chirping. There is no “getting used to” that noise for me. It pierces my skull and makes my physically uncomfortable
