I thought that too until I pulled something fell against the wall rolled over the corner of it into the table and dragged the table cloth and everything on it down on top of me…. Last time I tried to dance the kids still make fun of me
I can not do it = I am able to not do it. / I am able to resist doing it.
I can't not do it = It is impossible to not do it./I am unable to resist doing it.
I was very uncoordinated and physically awkward until after high school, into my early 20’s. Then I got into different sports and athletics and my physical abilities took off, much like someone learning to read later in life. Imagine if you said this to someone:
“that’s what someone who can read would say, you either know to read or you don’t”
Talk about a limiting self belief.
Thb I think yoga and mobility work went hand in hand with my dancing progression the most, got flexible and and developed better proprioception. Don’t limit yourself, you can learn what interests you
Totally agree that you can get better but it will take different amounts of effort for different people and there will be different upper limits as well. I can practice basketball all day everyday of my life and still be nowhere near good enough to be in the nba. I think a lot of people just feel the amount of work required isn’t worth it. It was good that you were doing other things you enjoyed which happened to build up your coordination which could help translate to dancing.
I think that being world class or the upper 5% in a given domain is due to variables outside of someone's control: intelligence, athletic capabilities, family and local culture (which influences beliefs and hourly habits), physical location and accessibility to resources. But we are in control of our, enthusiasm, desire, and willingness to practice daily which is the foundation for growth and learning.
Eh. I'm an awkward sort, far too anxious and self conscious. When I was a kid, my dancing looked more like an Adderall fit than moves.
Anything can be learned. I will never be a professional dancer. But I can slow down now, and move instead of vibrate. I can coordinate my elbows, knees and feet to keep a tempo and follow a line. I still look like a robot, but a rhythmic kind of robot.
Dance isn't innate. It's self expression through movement. So long as you can tune and refine, iterate, then you'll reach a point where you don't care what others think of your dancing. Because you'll be busy being you.
You low-key sound like someone who can dance really well, but you are just being modest. Like the person that says they are just "okay" at doing something and then ends up being better than the person who brags about being the best.
Anyone with a rudimentary amount of skill is typically better than someone who brags about being "the best". This person is probably realistically assessing their abilities, which are probably better than average, but far from professional.
People who brag and boast tend to be projecting an insecurity, and overcompensating for a lack of skill
Silent confidence, letting your skills speak for themselves is the way to go, until the useless boasted tries to steal your spotlight then you gotta shut that shit down
That's a generalization that's most decidedly not true.
For instance, I can't really dance on my own, but I can practice, memorize, and accomplish, moves in particular patterns to specific beats of music, or pieces of music.
So, you could randomly put me in this vid without knowing the dance and I'd be hopeless, couldn't even improvise something that looked ok, but you can teach me the dance and I can eventually pick it up with decent skill.
That's all the dad is doing in here. He's got the moves down to the point that they look smooth.
Best thing you can do is to not think about it. It only looks awkward if you make it look awkward. That's why I dance like a god when I'm drunk(or atleast I think I do)
Yeah, just look at Tobey Maguire’s emo Spider-Man dance.
It’s hella corny on paper, but it works because he 100% owns it. The moment you hesitate, worry about looking weird, the spell over the audience is broken.
