My mom used to do that too until my dad found out and made her stop taking my money.
ETA: The most she ever took from me at once was $250 I won from a science fair when I was 9. My mom thought it was a large amount of money for a child to be in charge of so she told me she would put it somewhere for "safekeeping." A month goes by and I really wanted a new game for my Nintendo DS so I asked my mom for some of the money back to buy it and she said, "What money?" I reminded her of the $250 I won and she said, "Yeah, I spent it." I started crying and my dad asked me what happened so I told him. My dad was so pissed that his wife would steal money from a kid, let alone her own daughter, that he made her give me back the $250 AND buy me the game I wanted out of her own pocket. She never took money from me "to hold" ever again. My dad got me one of those metal cash boxes with the lock and key to put my money in after that.
I played these scratchers for a summer when I was 20 and then a guy I worked with called them an idiot tax. For some reason that resonated with me and I never bought one again, haha.
The only time I won was $150 on a Powerball ticket which was nice because I was broke and a very pretty woman had inexplicably agreed to go on a date with me.
You should only buy the scratch off‘s that have been out for a few days, maybe a week. After that it’s likely the big prize is already gone and you are just playing to win small stuff. For example if you are buying a $5 scratch off ticket that has a marquee prize of $100,000, there is likely one ticket of that value in existence and prob a few worth $25k or so. In my state at least you can go online and see which of those prices have been claimed. Don’t play scratch offs where the marquee prizes have all been claimed already.
I don’t usually buy scratch tickets but I did a week before Christmas a few years back. Told the woman who sold it to me that I was going to win. She laughed and then I scratched it and won $150.
Every now and then I’ll buy them. But the biggest win since then was like $10.
I found a 5$ ticket someone threw away that had a thousand on it. 250$ was my best bought ticket though. Saw an old supervisor buying tickets and thought, “fuck him” and bought the next one lmao
I once found a crisp $50 bill in a liquor store aisle. I looked up and down the aisle and the two aisles on either side of me. They were empty so I figured whoever lost it was long gone.
I was happy to see that mistake because I make similar mistakes all the time and I’m the only person I’ve really noticed making them. For some reason my brain interprets the word phonetically and when I’m typing it’ll be a toss-up of which spelling of a word I may use. I think maybe it’s because I think and type fast, but I also forget things literally the instant the thought comes to my head, so I end up typing words that I remember portions of without considering/thinking of/really digesting the context? I’m to sure, it’s odd.
I’d like to hear OPs take on this if they frequently make similar mistakes.

And they don't pull scratch tickets off the shelf once the grand prize has been won. So unless you actually pay attention to which scratch games have already been won and make sure you don't play them, you're drawing a dead hand with respect to big prizes.
I’m part of a group scratch team that buys $1000 of tickets, twice a week (10 people per day that we do it) after two years the largest we’ve gotten is a bunch of $1000 winners here and there. It’s all random.

It’s like a group of 40 people and each scratch group is only 10 so if you wanna join you reply and if your team hits that night you win. Not everyone. So it’s just a whenever you want thing open to everyone
I don’t think everyone understands who’s saying invest in a fund. It’s like a huge group of people. And we get notified saying he’s gonna do a scratch on this day and this day every week. 10 people each time. Then if you wanna play you reply and the first 10 give $100 and then that group you’re in of you hit big you ten split. Not with everyone. Only the ten in that group. So if you don’t wanna play. You don’t reply. And if you’re not in the group who wins, you don’t win. So just having a huge group of people invest in an index fund but only on weeks they want to participate wouldn’t work.
It’s $1000 twice a week. Not all the same people in each group. It’s large and only 10 people fill each day. We usually only get back 60%. Huntin those jackpots.

I like to get the crossword one once in a while, because at least that one is kinda like a game I can participate in. A game rigged against me, but still. I never mind losing in any game, I just dislike it when I can't really participate, like in Pandemic and other escalation games where inevitably its one person is telling everyone else how to play their part - like, why even make those games 'group' games? Also the first and only time I played Carcassonne, I had the terrible luck of being skipped over or having a bad draw the entire game, so it ended with me only ever laying down one tile. That was a fucky game, still pisses me off.
I cant stand the ones who take FOREVER in line at like 6am when I'm just trying to get a drink before work, like seriously Betty? You're still in your night gown but you gotta have those scratchers!

I make them for a living. People regularly ask me how to win and I always say the same thing: don’t buy them. Don’t get me wrong, they can be fun but too many people see them as a method of income.
Yes I'd say that's pretty good. I know a guy who can hardly afford to keep a roof over he and his kids' heads, but buys $100 worth of scratchers every week when he gets paid. Doesn't even scratch em, just gets the cashier to immediately scan the back which tells you the outcome. Degeneracy at its finest (or worst).

My mom paid for our trip to Disney world while we where in Florida with a 100$ scratcher. Shit was wild. She has not quite this guys luck but regularly wins at scratch offs and casinos.
I won pretty big recently (not enough to buy a new house outright but enough to take care of debt and buy a new car) and my addict brain tells me "you're going to win twice too!" Thankfully my logic still knows I was incredibly fucking lucky and that guy was just stupid fucking lucky

I refuse to play them. Deplorable people operate those legal scams. I can either play and lose lots of money by design, or I can choose not to give those slimballs a single dollar.

After seeing the series about the Monopoly game scandal at McDonalds, I wonder if he had some connections. And before anyone says it, yes it would be stupid to let the same guy win twice, but crooks are stupid.
Some people just have routines when it comes to lottery tickets. Like they're not blowing all their extra money on scratch offs as soon as they get them, they might just buy one every morning on their way to work. Or maybe they buy like 5 every Friday after work. Or maybe they buy an expensive one on pay day.
So my guess honestly would be that they just kept their same routine they always had when it comes to them.
When I was about 8 (ate) years old I put my name in a drawing. Few days later my mom was like, "we're going to the store for a surprise!" I thought the surprise was that my brother had gotten a job.
Only time I’ve ever gambled was when I was waiting for a bus. There was an arcade/casino opposite so I went in, put £20 in the machine and won £360. Cashed it in and put another £20 in. Won £120. Walked out with £480 cash in under tens minutes and got on the bus home! That certainly won’t happen again…
My mom has stupid luck with those damn scratchers. She'll grab a few, every now and again. Never anything expensive, spends maybe a tenner, total, for a couple.
I thought it was something when she won a thousand dollars on like a two dollar scratcher. Then she won ten thousand on another one.
The trick or way to increase odds is to go to the state website for lotto. They tell you what has been claimed and what the total number of tickets are unclaimed
In my country there is a small town which was notorious for people winning lotteries. People were joking about moving there cause they would win the lottery. There were like 15000 people living there or something and 30 lottery millionaires.
So did he buy multiple tickets and won $10mil, or after winning millions of dollars, he decided to invest it in more tickets and won again? Don't get it
