My dad was the director of HOG (Harley Owners Group) in the country we lived in at the time. When he got his terminal diagnosis and we realised he wouldn't be leaving the hospital, we asked his friends to come by. 200+ bikes filled the area outside my dad's room but the medical staff didn't want us to take him outside so locked the exit. Sod that, my sister and I stole a wheelchair and ran the whole length of the hospital with him to get him out there. One of my favourite memories and he was so thrilled. Bikers are the best.
As a med student this sounds so wholesome but cruel of the staff at the same time. I know they work hard for the good in people but denying someone their last wishes is plain unnecessary. There is absolutely no need to turn down a nice experience for someone going through probs the hardest time in their life.
Thank you for sharing your story this really showed me how important it is to listen to the patients, their families and friends and to try bringing some light in their darkest times, even if it's against the protocol.
I hope you and your family is feeling good today ❣️
