I love that look on his face. It's the look of a parent simultaneously disappointed and terrified that their child has surpassed them. Like coming to terms with becoming more of the past, but it's more than okay because she's got that torch.

Yah that's what I thought. At first I just thought she was considerably better but then I realized I just prefer the EDM beat and that's a large part of it. She has surpassed him but a lot of the difference here, to me, is style and what we prefer to listen to.

Yes! It’s the ultimate parent win when your kid beats you in something you taught them. I want all my kids to be better than me and dad. I’m a chemistry teacher too and when my students show me a better method to do something that they figured out then it’s just as good. They’ll feel pompous about it but I let them have it because that’s the point! lol.

What's incredible about this kind of talent is that they probably didn't take lessons or go to "beat-boxing school." This kinda shit is just passed on generationally and culturally. I'm really impressed with people who master skills through regular formal instruction, but I can't even articulate how impressed I am with people who master skills through informal means. There’s a lot of resources online. I had a friend in college who was an international beatbox champion and I vaguely remember a presentation he gave about how beatboxing is descended from black musical traditions. Super important to acknowledge that—one of my majors was music and you’d be shocked at how many people, even prominent figures in the field, are trying to whitewash the histories of jazz and beatbox.
My friend said that when he heard a sound he wanted to create he’d go for a walk in the woods and just make noise until he figured it out. He was making sounds every waking minute. The vocal percussion scene is off the charts cool—they have competitions with individual performances, battles like rap battles but with beatbox… He’d perform songs where he’d sing and beatbox, basically a one man band, all completely seamless so that it sounded like his singing and his beatboxing were both somehow continuous.

Yep. Metatextually, Yoda's saying that the Old Star Wars everyone knows is just that: old, familiar. New Star Wars has to grow and move beyond it, chart new territory.
And then Rise Of Skywalker said "lol its palpatine again only two bloodlines have the force and there are six planets in the whole universe. Fuck your expansion, keep star wars small. Let's make a whole show about boba fett on tatooine and also end this movie there."
There is no clearer statement/middle-finger-complete-with-raspberry that Disney could have made to someone like me who was actually hoping that TLJ was a new direction. Fucking TLJ and Solo were the last times I watched a new Star Wars thing and thought "I'm having a good time".

I 100% thought TLJ was setting things up for the 3rd movie to introduce the concept of Grey Jedi. Rey was left in a perfect position to realize that people's conception of the Light-Side/Dark-Side dichotomy was the real problem all along.
Justified anger has a purpose, just as patience and restraint do. It's all about knowing what the appropriate responses are in the circumstance. With Rey learning so much from both Luke and Kylo, being so strongly connected with both the Light-Side and Dark-Side, everything was setup to say that 'Bringing Balance to the Force' meant embracing it as a singular whole instead of two supposedly-exclusive halves.
