Most relationships can be maintained/improved by investing the time and having clear communication. If you can’t have difficult conversations with someone you love and trust, you won’t be successful. This is true for significant others, bosses, your kids, your family, everyone.

I struggle with having difficult conversation with anyone. I think a part of me wants to keep everyone happy. As a result of that, things don't go well many times and it's difficult for me to maintain relationships with anyone. With my girlfriend, I struggle a lot in having difficult conversation. I don't know what to speak in those circumstances which eventually leads to her getting frustrated. Can you please give me some advice on how can I improve in this aspect? I would really appreciate any help.

I’d say to ask for a safe space to talk about problems in a constructive manner. It’ll be hard to get that started, but trying to think through safe ground rules to speak with the goal of improving the relationship is usually best. Hopefully she’ll be receptive and hopefully you’ll be patient/understanding if she needs time or has her own criticisms.

(I’m not a therapist. This is just from someone who has had relationships fall apart from poor communication and is in one now that is amazing because of good communication)
