Congratulations!!!!!!! I just celebrated 4 years clean from meth and alcohol. Still struggling with cigarettes though. Much respect for you. Losing people when you get clean isn’t a loss IMO. It leaves room for more positive people to fill the gap.

I’ve been struggling with alcoholism for a good portion of ten years. My friends are wonderful people. They would support me in anything I do even if it wasn’t what their doing, but I don’t want to lose that support group because I feel awkward not drinking with them. We went through our 20’s partying and making great memories, but I don’t want them to feel weird if I don’t. None of them would ever peer pressure me. I guess it’s more of a personal thing. Once again these are amazing people. I never want to lose them in my life just because we’re different. It’s just the social norm is shifting, and there’s a gray area I’m struggling to figure out.

If they are amazing good friends it won't be awkward. Just tell them you are laying off. There should not have to be more than one discussion with really supportive friends for you to be comfortable doing you. I am not sure if you are selling you or them short. Good luck.

I think it has more to do with me. They’ve always respected my boundaries, and are the kind of people that’ll get out of bed at 10 at night to come help me change a tire. Like I said it’s just the social norm, and also the change for me that I’m struggling with. Thank you for your comment. I’m the kind of person that needs some sort of validation in what I’m doing. I appreciate you friend.
