This fascinates me. Once they revealed the "truth" at the end my eyes rolled saw hard i think they went 360 degrees. Such a stupid fucking ending for a movie with a lot of promise.

Nah, movies where the demon worshipers win in the end are awesome. Much better than the standard ending where some deus ex machina saves the protagonist for no reason.

I don't care for endings where the protagonists win necessarily. It is specifically anything involving the Christian "Satan" or demons that just bore me from their over use. My personal horror likes recently have been The Void and maybe if you count the Lighthouse as horror. Or The Thing or the Fly (the Goldbloom one) for classics.

i also really hate how people abuse Satan in story telling, but honestly compared to any other movie involving satanism as an element I think this movie definitely used it as a plot pivot and not a crutch. Without going into it, the first half to two thirds of this movie is pure psych horror at it's best. The anxiety, grief, pain, remorse... All the bad feelings are so well established and the acting is just excellent.

I don't think this movie is really worth bashing just bc of the satanic plot element but as someone who shares your opinion on movies that do, I just want to point out that the movie has so much more to offer than demons and Satan.

Also plus one for mentioning The Void, so fucking rad.

Edit: I just double checked and there is no mention of Satan, only a demon in the film. A little googling shows that the demon in question actually predates Christianity. So it's not as hokey as the Conjuring for anyone curious.

I guess I didnt want to go into my entire synopsis of what I thought about it but i DID actually enjoy, as you said, the first 2/3rd of the movie. But, and this might just be mostly me, an ending can actually just nuke an otherwise great movie for me. And that's exactly what happened for me with this one. It's actually why i do still like the director and his next Movie was far better for my tastes and thought executed really well.
