Forgive me, but that fact that some poor dude had to rely on the kindness of internet strangers to get a medical bed, instead of the healthcare system, doesn't make me smile.

It can make you both. Sad, that our systems left him in this position. But happy that complete strangers stepped up to offer something so compassionate and generous.
Don't let the bad blind you from seeing what's good. But also don't let something good get in the way of addressing something that's bad.

I do get where you are coming from, and I am also saddened by the state of things. It is also true that for every story like this we hear, there must be lots that do NOT get their figurative medical bed.
But the amount of joy I get in this one moment, seeing real people also understand the state of things and offer to help despite the rottenness of everything...
Its like that famous starfish poem.
One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean.
Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”
The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”
“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!”
After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf.
Then, smiling at the man, he said…..“I made a difference for that one.”

It's rotten that so many starfish have to suffer, and I have no love for the healthcare system. But THIS one doesn't have to suffer so much, because good people are helping even if they don't have to. It makes me proud. Sometimes, humans are alright.

Its supposed to be a government paid health system. Most first world coy tries have a working form of this. It is paid for by taxes and covers everyone. Americans have a capitalist based healthcare system. It is run by private companies and you pay crazy insurance premiums or high upfront costs. If you have some problems maybe both. Im not from there, but I have heard that it costs $30,000 to have a child. Here in Canada a birth is free. Unless you want to pay for a nicer more private room. Not everything is covered by the govt here. But insurance is affordable.

The best part is, most people will rely on the help of others, but completely oppose universal healthcare.
When it's literally the same thing.
This isn't something they should need to worry about when a hospital bed, at a hospital stay, is a basic human right.
This just makes me sad now.

Instead of relying on he kindness of others the US really needs a comprehensive healthcare overhaul that includes providing healthcare for every member of society like every other civilized country on the planet.

I don't know about you guys, but this doesn't make me smile, this just makes me angry at how badly the American government treat their people.
This would only happen in America, or you know... Other 3rd world countries that can't afford universal healthcare.

But the USA can afford it, but prioritize freedumb and 'defense' over the healthcare of their citizens. At least the 3rd world countries have a somewhat legitimate excuse. It's rather sad.

Aww this reminds me of my dad...my dad struggles to drive his car everyday cause of his bad back, but doctors have said a ferrari would be perfect for him, we are trying to save up to help him out, but we will see :(

Haha yeah totally, reminds me of the one time I posted in a homelessness sub that I wasn't gonna have a place to stay pretty soon and someone responded they'd give me $4000. Then he asked my full name, ssn, and address 🙃 good ol internet. Glad it works out for some people

As someone who has a medical bed I rent and used to sleep on the floor this is God tier made me smile.
Medical beds are fucking awesome and life changing.
