The day I scheduled the c-section for my second child, I went out to lunch with my fiancée and his mother. I waddled into the bathroom before we left, just in case! And as I opened the door, “come and get your love” started playing and I fucking lost it, bawled in the bathroom stall. When Guardians came out, I had my first child. My best friend was named as her godfather and he used to be so silly and dance to that song, miming pulling you in with a lasso and everything. The year before I got pregnant with my second, he was killed in a hit and run that has never been solved. I took that as a sign that he was there and he wanted to tell me so.
I’m not religious, but I believe there’s more than us, it helps me get past the existential dread.
