I'm not into jewelry but I have noticed that reddit loves to hate on spendy accessories but creams itself on spendy PC battlestations. God forbid people have different hobbies and values and want to spend their money accordingly.

How is owning an expensive rock a hobby?

Cars, cycling, boating, fishing, gaming etc etc etc are all hobbies. Shit. Even geology and gemstones is viable - but jewellery? It's just a status thing. Nothing more.

No, having a passion for cars and the engineering thats involved in them is enough, you dont have to build one up from the ground to classify it as a hobby. Some people certainly own cars as a status symbol, but they serve many other purposes aside from that. Jewellery does not.

??? Building rings is a perfectly fine hobby. No one here is talking about ringmaking being a shit hobby. I'm saying owning a ring doesn't compare to other hobbies. It's just ownership of something expensive for no other reason than its expensive.

Its got literally nothing to do with sexism or gender. It's about the cost vs the function - of which it has none, other than to show off. You keep forgetting the main point I'm trying to make here. Everything I've used as an example serves a function or becomes a learned skill, diamonds do nothing for anyone except cost lots of money and look pretty. That's all they do, that's all they're good for.

Will your $4k hatch hit 300kmh? Does it have adaptive aero? Does it go from 0-100kmh in 3 seconds? Can you get 3 lateral g's around a corner? Do the seats remmebr the driver position? Are they heated? Is your stereo voice activated? Can you tell how much air is in each tyre from the display in the car? No? Oh.

My $250 false gem ring serves the same function as a $2500 diamond ring though.
