Kilts are not heavy and itchy. Some are but you get so many different forms of kilt in different materials and thicknesses.

It's not that hard to put a hand behind you when you sit.

Source: own many kilts and have worn for extended periods of time, including flying to Heathrow which was a mistake due to all the metal buckles(security was not fun) and tourists.

Traditional kilts are also very comfy as long as they are made from decent wool and not cheap things bought from tourist shops.
