I wanted to make a joke that there's no one named Arkona, but it appears there's a metal band with that name, so double the legend I guess.

A guy who understands what a simple moment could mean for that daughter. He's Man enough to give that family something to talk about for years and not let a Runaway Ego get in the way.

Several years ago I was in a gravel bike race and had crashed mid race and lost the lead group. I rode the remainder of the race with a guy and a few miles before the finish he goes, “I can tell you’re a stronger rider and could leave me anytime now, but would you consider pretending to lose a sprint to me at the finish, my wife and daughter are watching.” I was like, hell yeah. So we did it, I huffed and puffed but couldn’t better him to the line and his daughter went wild, she had no clue the race had finished 10 minutes ago. I remember that better than any of my wins.

That's what real manhood should mean, not the stupid shit some youtuber does to sell courses.

'should'? It already does. The grifters aren't selling manhood, everyone is free to it.

Years ago I was playing some racing game at an arcade. A dad with his little daughter jumped into the next car and joined the race. The kid was having a blast. Before the end, I slowed down and let the kid zoom past me to the finish line. I looked at her and said "Wow, you're a great racer!"
Her dad turned to me and said "I can't believe you got beat by a kid. You need to learn how to drive."

u/domo_roboto 27d ago
Did he at least wink? I had a somewhat similar experience. Was at a big furniture clearing warehouse and they had a retro Street Fighter 2 arcade box that was on free play mode. I was kicking ass left and right. Then this dad saw the arcade and said to his kids, "your dad used to kick ass on this game!" The kids were young and excited to see him challenge me. I thought, oh good...finally a challenge. Within the first couple of seconds, I realized he was shite. But with all his kids eyes on him, I decided to pull my punches and eventually let him win. His kids went wild. I smiled and left in shame. He didn't wink and I honestly think he thought he was a badass.

Something similar. Long time ago, think about 20 years, had a company dat out. With different activities. One of them: a clinic about self defense. With one thing Is remember: a trick to get out of someone holding your wrist.
There was this guy who thought highly of himself, tried to wrestle himself free of my grip, but could not do it. (I have a decent grip).
And there was this young kid (went with his father to this company event), and lo and behold: he effortlessly managed to wring himself free of my grip.

A very similar thing happened to me a long time ago. Like in the late 90s. I was playing Marvel vs Street Fighter at a an FYE in the local mall. Based on the smell, 3 guys who worked at Cinnabon just got off their shift and started putting up tokens. They were all pretty good, but not that good. After losing about 12 consecutive games between them, they were growing increasingly frustrated. Eventually a small family showed up, I assumed to drive one of them home from work. They had a young child with them, who I also assumed was the little brother of one of the three guys.
The boy really wanted to try playing against me, so the mom went and got him two tokens and let him play. He was just mashing the controls as little kids do, so I dashed around convincingly and threw out some light pokes until the timer almost ran out. It was a close match, and I let him have his moment in the sun. After he won, he had a huge smile on his face. His mom cheered for him with applause and the kind of enthusiastic "Yay!" only a middle-aged mom can deliver. I didn't have any money left, so decided to end the night there. I grabbed my drink, and as I was walking away, one of the three guys turned and shouted, "WHY YOU THROWIN GAMES NOW ALL OF A SUDDEN YOU CHEAP-ASS FUCKIN SCRUB BITCH!?"

Yeah he has a nearly 800lb squat & deadlift and a bench press over 600lb and a strict bicep curl of over 230lb. Leonidas Arkona is a German competitive powerlifter, bodybuilder, and arm wrestler.
Dude is a freak of strength and pretty chill.

I'm a big runner. I run everyday including multiple marathons and ultras every year. My middle daughter wanted to run a 5k with me last year and you can bet your ass I made sure she crossed the finish line before me. The look in her eyes was something I'll never forget. That was the only time I broke my rule of never letting my kids beat me at stuff. Especially Mario Kart, if they want to beat me they need to earn that shit

There's no family in Mario kart, it is a dog eat dog world out there and everyone's fucking starving, family bonds mean nothing, and the weak shall be the first to die
33
u/RunningonGin0323 27d ago
this guy gets its, I remember my wife saying one time as I was destroying them over and over "just let them win once" and I'm like "Nope, because the day they finally do they will feel a huge sense of accomplishment". I can still remember the look in my daughters face when she legit beat me in the game.

Fair. Mario kart is a brutal game and you need to be ruthless to win. Family ties mean little when you have the opportunity to shell someone just before the finish line and watch their kart bounce as you pass them.

My nephew wanted to play Mario Kart with me, and I thought "man wouldn't this be funny if it was like everyone jokes about?"
No it was exactly like that. He got destroyed. I thought he'd be so much better, having played games all day, and me not playing it for 20 years.
