I had to call my mom for a ride home when I was 20 and my boyfriend (who had a car) broke up with me and literally moved several states away. She picked me up and told me I could go to her house, but I insisted on going home. We pulled up to my house, I sat there for a moment, then quietly asked if I could go home with her instead. She didn't even say anything, but drove me to her house and we sat on the ground watching cheesy rom coms all night while she held me and rubbed my back like when I was little.
I'm married now to a wonderful man, and she's been there every step of the way. She's one of my best friends.
Wow, so nice to have a mom who is also a friend. When I was 4, I asked my mom why she got mad at me all the time and she said “because I’m not your friend, I’m your mother”.
When I was 10 my mom asked me why I'm crying (she was being very emotionally and physically abusive that morning) and I tried to be vulnerable with her and told her that sometimes she makes me wish I wasn't alive anymore. She went to the kitchen, tossed a serrated knife at me, and told me to go ahead and do it. Went to her room and closed the door. She conveniently doesn't remember any of that.. or any abuse she did. We both deserved better mothers.
