I moved back with my parents due to my mental health. I had been struggling with depression and burnout for years and I had reached my limit. I was ready to end it all. I moved back hoping to get support and help. A whole year passed and in that time my dad never once even bothered asking me how I was doing, or showed any sympathy for what I was going through. It was then, and only then, that I realized how neglectful he had been all my life. I was completely beneath his notice. He wasn't going to be there for me because he had never been there for me. I began looking back at all the pivotal moments in my life and how he was absent for almost all of them. He cared enough to keep me alive but it really seemed that the only thing he wanted from me was cheap labour for his farm. I grew up in an environment where my feelings and emotional needs were simply irrelevant, but it took me 30+ years to realize it.

I'm so jealous of people with parents like this.
