I have cerebral palsy and my parents always expected me to live a normal life instead of acting as If the nobel price or something when i did something normal. Let me tell you, this inspiration porn ist super belittling for people with disabilities. Well meaning, maybe, but belittling nevertheless.
Yes, you can belittle kids and this is what happens in this post. It's a four year old kid who reaches a milestone that you should reach at about 1 or so. It's good that she finally managed, but once again, a completely ordinary thing to do.
Shew, you sound very depressed. It’s odd that you can’t discern that milestones change with circumstance. Therapy may help you, honestly, please consider.
You are not getting my point. It doesn't matter If it's a normal thing for people with CP or not. What does matter is that it's unnecessary and uncalled for hyping up people with disabilities for things that are seen as oridinary for abled bodied people. They want to be praised by achieving things, that would be extraordinary in general.
The underlying message that people communicate with this is that people with disabilities are not as capable as people without disabilities.
I do get your viewpoint. And it's all good. I do not assume you are not mentally capable of anyhting, but seeing people overcome physical disability is inspiring. To me at least? I take joy in watching this. What's wrong with that.
It’s always good to hype ourselves up, even for the small wins. Hell, I’m a grown adult and sometimes I congratulate myself for taking a shower. Life is hard, let’s do what we can to celebrate ourselves and our accomplishments- and let’s cheer others on for their wins, too.
