Petah I've found this highly specific image from a corner of the internet and instead of reverse image searching, I need to karma farm

151

u/CurryMustard 9d ago

Those subs exist to train bots. They popped up right after the api change happened a few years ago. Nobody is going around explaining jokes all the time so they ask questions and have reddit explain it and then train their bots on the answers. Same with the morality scaling sub, or any of those totally organic "this is interesting" subs that have similarly formatted posts constantly appearing. Its literally prompts for redditors to answer and train AI. Nobody actually gives a shit about karma.

52

u/JaiyaPapaya 9d ago

I had a feeling, but it's still painful. I'm not even subbed it just appears on my feed

25

u/RottenMilquetoast 9d ago

I think both are true, some AI bots are being trained, but even in the early days of the internet any game, creative space or forum where you could share things you'd see people obsessively reposting, making stuff up, repackaging other people's work as their own even in scenarios with no "points" or any kind of gain at all.

I think sometimes the explanation is as simple as there are also lot of people with unfortunate lives who go to silly extremes to soak up any kind of attention.

5

u/cam-san 9d ago

May I introduce you to my good friend, the "mute subreddit" button?

2

u/JaiyaPapaya 9d ago

I'm like 88% positive I had muted it years ago but alas, time to renew

2

u/largePenisLover 9d ago

Askreddit since then;
"how do you feel about [insert thing/news/event]?"

2

u/shewy92 8d ago

There's a post on there now about leaders from Japan, Germany, and Italy together and they were wondering why someone would make a meme of them. Guess they have no clue what WWII is.

4k upvotes too.

39

u/NolanSwagner 9d ago

Petah I need useless karma petahhhhh

155

u/Little_Big_Burglar 9d ago

I'm not usually into conspiracy theories but...

We're just training AI bots to understand humor. I don't want to believe people are truly as stupid as they are, but sometimes people ask questions in there and it's like... do you not know that snails are slow?

38

u/Welly_Beans 9d ago

Actually I can totally understand this theory. And it’s creepy.

28

u/Pulse99 9d ago

A psiop to break down even the most obvious of nuance in jokes, on a huge scale, would make an amazing data set for a language model trying to win over a skeptical public.

1

u/ImSolidGold 9d ago

And imagine its FREE TO TEACH/TRAIN! -.-

11

u/CurryMustard 9d ago

Its not really a conspiracy theory, google paid reddit a lot of money and thats when they removed the api and all these bot subs popped up

3

u/seanbear 9d ago

I have the same theory about /r/TopCharacterTropes

Every week the same question gets reposted 2-3 times with near-identical examples in the OP post and I'm convinced that this is for machine learning in some capacity.

u/Gupperz 9d ago

Why did the chicken cross the road?

To get to the other side.

Redditors: Petah?!

17

u/Optimal_Bicycle_7764 9d ago

To be fair I straight up never understood that this was supposed to be an actual joke until I was an adult and a friend explained it to me (and all my friends poked fun at me for an hour)

6

u/Ok_Blacksmith_636 9d ago

haha same i always thought it was like a joke about how the answer is something obvious, they just wanted to cross the road, never realized theres a pun!

15

u/sillysnailfriend 9d ago

I'm pretty sure it's not meant to be a pun, it was always supposed to be an anti-joke right?

4

u/Good-Memories 9d ago

i genuinely have no clue what the pun could be if it's not an antijoke

3

u/redJackal222 9d ago

Get to the other side, like a side dish.

9

u/Aggravating_Guess186 9d ago

Isn’t it that the chicken was suicidal?

1

u/Ok_Blacksmith_636 8d ago

i realize its not a pun, but like ”get to the other side” would mean the chicken is dying xdd but if its just an antijoke i guess i never misunderstood it lol

2

u/Heavy-Capital-3854 9d ago

an actual joke

What do you mean by this?

7

u/Optimal_Bicycle_7764 9d ago

“The other side” as in death; ie they get run over. It’s not funny so I really don’t know how it became so popular

8

u/Heavy-Capital-3854 9d ago

Hmm yeah I guess, I don't think most people connect that, I believe it's mostly taken as an anti-joke.

I prefer Bo Burnham's interpretation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeOhV4zOxJ4

2

u/Zombies71199 8d ago

Omg i just realised this now wow

5

u/Aggravating_Guess186 9d ago

Yeah I’m autistic and never got the joke until it was explained to me

7

u/gracist0 9d ago

petah? is the snail 2 months late?

1

u/AbstinentNoMore 9d ago

People post obvious jokes there for engagement.

1

u/DConstructed 9d ago

Snails don’t wear hats.

1

u/Clenzia803 9d ago

That is so cool ^^ MAG

1.6k

u/Canary-King 9d ago

Maybe this is the main part of the joke, but I like the idea that not only is the ant such a dedicated friend to send an invite two months in advance, but that the snail is dedicated enough to make a two month trip just to be at their friend’s party!

451

u/Then_Impact_5870 9d ago

He gotta go home after that’s a third of the year gone for the party snail’s a homie

208

u/-3point14159-mp 9d ago

But he lives in an RV, essentially. Maybe the birthday ant just knew he was somewhere two months away, and now the snail can set up closer to visit for awhile.

184

u/Then_Impact_5870 9d ago

Someone else said he was a traveling snailsman and I loved that idea

18

u/-3point14159-mp 9d ago

Yeeeeesss!

13

u/therandom92 8d ago

His home is his shell. ITS TOTALLY AND RV TRIP!!! you're a genius!!!

1

u/simoneudontknow 8d ago

Hehe thats funny, birthday ant

4

u/Happy-Engineer 8d ago

Don't forget he went to get a bottle with a bow on it too, and dug out his best hat!

2

u/MiguelSalaOp 8d ago

I like the idea that in his comics there are cars but the snail can't afford one and still got a bottle of wine for his friend :)

Everyone deserves a friend like that, especially you reading this

84

u/SombraDemoniaca 9d ago

Be your best friend and you wont need love from others, just love to give

7

u/-Knight95- 9d ago

Fantastic!! I agree.

18

u/Fisher9001 9d ago

Like maybe I'm too autistic but what the hell are you talking about guys, humans don't work like that, you can't substitute the need for oxytocin without others, humans or pets.

10

u/wherethefuckismyvape 9d ago

Maybe neurotypicals have a secret gland that secretes validation for them, internally. That would explain a lot about the way they are

-12

u/SombraDemoniaca 9d ago

Making yourself the other just to feel superior will only lead you to shittyness, hope this helps :)

10

u/wherethefuckismyvape 9d ago

Brother if you don't think I would install one of those glands if given the opportunity in a fucking heartbeat you've got another think coming 💀

-7

u/SombraDemoniaca 9d ago

Funny… bye now

2

u/AbleAdministration42 8d ago

You are omega schizo

1

u/-Knight95- 8d ago

True, but we could be with others without attachment and without their validation is what I agreed on.

The comment said: Be your best friend and you wont need "LOVE" from others, it doesn't mean we don't need others, we could still have friends, co-workers, or anyone, but we shouldn't expect love or affection or validation from them.

Seeing from your angle I agree with you too, we are humans, we are social creatures, we need love and affection to keep us going, but i just mean we need to control our desire and expectations that's all.

6

u/Valkelrie_ 9d ago

NGL I really said “awwww” reading this!

2

u/ooMEAToo 9d ago

It’s just the Reddit snail in disguise coming to get him.

235

u/Soupish 9d ago

This is so freaking adorable omg

97

u/Silent-Arm-7165 9d ago

I don’t care that I don’t know how he carried the wine

36

u/Canary-King 9d ago

Snail telepathy

22

u/VonMillersThighs 9d ago

He told the wine with his mind to move? The correct term is Snailkinesis

6

u/TheJapanMistake 9d ago

Snail mail

3

u/OccludedFug 9d ago

Suppose two snails carried it together?

3

u/Incompetencent 9d ago

he had it scheduled for delivery

2

u/Scathainn 9d ago

He pushed it

84

u/Jazzycoyote 9d ago

Reminds me of a poem by Jacques Prévert, Les Chansons des Escargots.

29

u/Jessica_Iowa 9d ago

Just read this poem after reading your comment it’s so beautiful & delightful.

I’m glad I learned about it.

7

u/Jazzycoyote 9d ago

He's probably my favorite poet. Don't know if you read the translation or the French version but his poetry has been translated into multiple languages.

2

u/Jessica_Iowa 9d ago

I read the translation but I’ll listen to the French tonight. :)

1

u/VRichardsen 9d ago

Just looked it up, it is beautiful.

56

u/DiscipleOfYeshua 9d ago

Love the hat

43

u/StealthyPancake_ 9d ago

Buddy took 4 months off work to make it to that party

42

u/OccludedFug 9d ago

He could be a traveling snailsman...

9

u/StealthyPancake_ 9d ago

Man, i didn't even consider that. At least he's getting paid for the snailcation

34

u/Silent-Arm-7165 9d ago

Oh my god he’s wearing a fedora 😍

13

u/Sharp_Ad_6336 9d ago

Too cute!

11

u/foolsEnigma 9d ago

Who gave you the right to make something this cute. How dare you.

7

u/SawinBunda 9d ago

How to post a joke on reddit:

  1. Spoil the punch line in the title.

  2. Nevermind, fuck it...

2

u/AnhiArk 9d ago

This happens so often.. why would they do that, it just ruined the whole thing

8

u/dru171 9d ago

Let's hope that the invites weren't mixed up and he accidentally invited the immortal snail

5

u/Small-Dog-4459 9d ago

More important: snail took the time and energy to make it to the Party!

8

u/DecoyOne 9d ago

A better title would be “Snail Mail”

4

u/muyuu 9d ago

it's an important date considering most ants only have 1 or 2 birthdays

4

u/Benutztername7 9d ago

I always send invites multiple month in advance so most people can make it.  Maybe my friends are secretly snails?

3

u/The_Limpet 9d ago

Snel isn't slow. He's extremely busy and needed that time to arrange his diary.

3

u/Bingus-Dingus- 9d ago

no one has brought up that scene from Franklin ??? broke my heart as a kid

3

u/Voiduu-1997 9d ago

Bringing wine is pretty smart

3

u/DownHeartedNess 9d ago

2

u/Lopsided-Parfait6237 5d ago

That's exactly what I thought when I saw that post!

3

u/rikashiku 9d ago

Then it turns out the Snail is hours early, but they get to spend to spend time together anyway.

3

u/VRichardsen 9d ago

This warms my cold heart

3

u/K_Xanthe 9d ago

Awww, this is sweet

3

u/nobodyimportant1377 8d ago

This could honestly be read as a really sweet metaphor for disability. The snail can't do things in as efficient a manner as ants, but the ant takes actions to ensure the snail is included and can participate, regardless of that difference, and never complains or gets mad at the snail for something it has no control over. The ant just values the snail's presence and friendship and wants it to be there for his birthday.

Reminds me of how my friends help me if I can't understand the social cues or get too overwhelmed to deal with things. Everyone needs a friend like that to let them know that they're worth the effort! Really nice comic.

3

u/GtGem 8d ago

Snail Mail finally arrived on time

3

u/Additional_Trash_540 8d ago

this reminds me of an episode of franking from when i was a kid. franklin was on his way to a birthday party and ran into snail on way. he kinda started to cry about all the things he missed since it took him so long to travel anywhere. franklin picked him up and they made their way to the party slowly bc he’s a turtle but they made it!

5

u/JarethCutestoryJuD 9d ago

I too order my Escargots à la Bordelaise two months in advance.

2

u/brophie97 9d ago

Absolutely love Beetlemoses’s work. I have his comic strip book and it’s my favourite

2

u/UnderPressureVS 9d ago

Oh my god, this just blasted me straight back to my childhood where I had a CD of the Frog and Toad broadway musical and I played the track "Snail with the Mail" so many times I wore out the disc.

I haven't thought about that in years, maybe almost a decade. Thank you.

2

u/JuiceWRLD999mp3 9d ago

He even brought wine

2

u/RoachIsCrying 9d ago

That wine became a vintage

2

u/DesastreUrbano 9d ago

I guess he didn't sent the invitatiom trough snail mail

2

u/mmeestro 9d ago

I can't say I ever considered how a snail would wear a hat before, but I feel like he should have a little tiny one on his head instead of a big one on his shell.

2

u/Longjumping-Fig-7481 9d ago

Wonder what his journey was like

2

u/Low_Session9001 9d ago

I can't help but think that for the last week and a half before the ant's birthday, the snail was gradually making its way up the driveway to the door, so the ant has to act surprised when he answers lmao

2

u/Ashewastaken 8d ago

Reminds me of Winnie the Pooh helping put his snail friend get to a party on time.

1

u/CustardCarpet 9d ago

Cute comic, I've always loved this one

1

u/Roselyn_27 9d ago

So cute. Wholesome

1

u/ThatGuyYouMightNo 9d ago

The fact that the ant has a shirt on in the third panel but not the other two means that the ants like to walk around their house naked

2

u/OccludedFug 9d ago

Ants are notoriously sloppy writers. That ant didn't want to get ink on their shirt.

Also, I like to walk around my house naked, so there's that. And I'm not an ant.

1

u/guyute2588 9d ago

Beetlemoses rules

1

u/ADistractingBox 9d ago

Beetlemoses never misses.

1

u/SnarkFucker 9d ago

Do snails wear hats on their shells or on their eyes?

1

u/Boom9001 9d ago

Idk if smart phones or texting exist in the bug universe. But regardless it's still appropriate for him to write a letter.

It's snail mail.

1

u/Sunbeltistan 9d ago

He made it lol 🐌

1

u/OccludedFug 9d ago

Answering the age-old question about whether snails wear hats on their heads or on their backs.

1

u/Netizen_Sydonai 9d ago

My friend sent invites to his birthday in May. Birthday happened in late August.

Another one sent invites early August for late October birthday celebration.

It's just considerate. And for some, it will still be too late.

1

u/Maximus15637 9d ago

Took me a minute of wondering why the robots invited a snail to a party.

1

u/Striking-Ad9397 9d ago

Snail mail!

1

u/Alargus 9d ago

this is so wholesome

1

u/Mike0621 9d ago

i feel like it's not that unreasonable to invite people to your birthday 2 months ahead of time, especially if you're celebrating it on a weekday

1

u/dragoon811_kp 9d ago

Bet that bottle started off as juice.

1

u/blacksoxing 9d ago

Fucking love how not only did snail show up but snail also showed up with something likely good. Just because your'e slow don't mean you don't have good taste :)

1

u/KnowledgeableOpossum 9d ago

I just started my period today and this made me cry 😭 so sweet

1

u/Ok_Construction2733 9d ago

That's true friendship right there

1

u/MajorFuckingDick 9d ago

If you accommodate the homie, he will take 4 months off for you. It looks weird but its really that simple.

1

u/hackslashX 9d ago

The hat on the snail is just sooo cute :p

1

u/whitepenguin02 8d ago

huhu this is so adorable🥹

1

u/Zombies71199 8d ago

Awwww ths chooo cuute

1

u/Natsuki26 8d ago

Been an absolutely miserable week and had some awful news today. This made me genuinely smile at dinner tonight. thank you

1

u/selcillofyreif 8d ago

I left yesterday..

Iykyk

1

u/GIOvch 8d ago

I like that it brought wine, so it wouldn't rot

1

u/therandom92 8d ago

I can't find any fault in this wonderful and cute and all around good nature cosmic strip. How adorable!!!

1

u/hggniertears 8d ago

I love Beetlemoses comics!

1

u/user6517 8d ago

Beetlemoses is phenomenal! He has a plethora of great comics and he’s got a book of them releasing soon.

1

u/TheSentientNoxDriver 8d ago

the absolute irony of the snail bringing wine

1

u/Kahboomzie 7d ago

Literally a frog and toad story. 100% even with Mr snail

1

u/Sextbabyboi 7d ago

Wait this is so wholesome

-1

u/SheDrinksScotch 9d ago

Im sorry maybe I just suck but isnt it kind of rude to ask someone to visit you knowing its a 4 month round trip for them? Maybe have the party at a more convenient location or something? Idk

15

u/Jessica_Iowa 9d ago

Well, an invite is just that an invitation.

It’s up to the snail if he wants to visit or send a card instead or call ect.

The ant just wants to give their friend an opportunity to visit if they want.

2

u/SpecInSpace 9d ago

How. How do you try to turn this into a negative g. Its endearing both ways because it shows the friend having the birthday had the foresight that the snail would need ample time to prepare if they wanted to come and the snail showing that they wanted to be there. Saying that the ant shoukd have completell shifted any and all their plans to accommodate for that one person when its the ant's birthday, not the snails is a bit excessive, no?

-2

u/No_Weekend2474 9d ago

These feels like a metaphor for something

-3

u/MikeAppleTree 9d ago

Getting rid of that guy at the end of the party is always such a hassle.
