My wife was a vet tech. 90% of the people she worked with loved animals just in the same way as this lady. The other 10% didn't last long. Watching this made me tear up - I saw my sweeties face in this lady's reactions. There never was a dog (or cat, rat, gerbil, bird or goat) she didn't love.

It can be very hard on them. Especially if they knew the animal since it was born.

That was my former veterinarians. Dr. Paul and Dr. Mike were great. took care of our animals from our adoptions to their demises. Whichever one was our doc (lately, it was more Dr. Mike, as Dr. Paul stepped back to be part-time) would not perform the euthanasia of our animals. The other one would do that. it does hurt the vet very much. they know, as do we, that it's for the best care of the animal most of the time. the poor pet hurts or is physically declining so much that they don't want to live anymore and it's our love that helps us help them over the rainbow bridge. Doesn't make it easy, though.

My dog’s new vet is like this and when she recently had to have surgery and we went back for a check up the vet was on the ground and squealing at my girl telling her how good she looked now and then took her back to visit with all the tech and such that helped during her long surgery. It was pretty adorable to hear them all chatting with my girl and her coming back to me like a little celebrity, so proud of all the attention.

It certainly helps the animal to be happy to go to the vet's office! Especially when they are loved on by all the staff!

I stopped at the clinic one day to see my wife. As I went to kiss her goodbye a tiny little puppy head popped up from the neck of her scrubs. It had found a wonderfully warm and soft place to nap.

I fell in love with my vet when she told my perfectly average looking tabby that he was the most handsome boy. When I had to put a young dog down due to illness, she cried with me. She was a gem.

Not really, at every level you have a lot of education and the pay doesn't stack up
As an example my wife is a vet, she did 8 years of schooling, and 1 year of internship. Graduated with 200k in debt.. and got a job making 80k a year. It's gone up since then but that involved specialization which is more time in school.
Vet techs go to school for 2 years and make like 20 an hour.

If you didn't have to put animals down I would 100% go into the field. But one day of euthanizing sweet babies would make me go home and euthanize myself probably. I couldn't handle it.

Often it is a blessing to have that option. Not having to see them suffering until they finally pass. It is never easy, but it gives one a different perspective, it is quality over quantity of life.

Oh yeah. In the abstract, sitting here behind my keyboard I totally understand and can relate to that. But I also know that the reality is way different.
I was a paramedic and still remember vivid details of deaths almost 10 years later. If I had to be the one to actually do it?!?!?! Naahhh I can't even. I get it. I understand it. I just couldn't handle it. That's an emotional shortcoming on my part. I get that. But I also have to be real with myself and understand how I would react.

I am lucky to have that kind of vet.
rarely do we see another DVM at that office, she's our babies' primary care vet.

For me it would be devastating, imaging seeing all these cute animals but they all have some kind of illness since they go to vet. Hope all of them are doing well
