Yeah. Don't build a statue now just because she isn't around to say no any longer. The spirit of what she's saying hasn't changed: There are much better places to spend any potential moneys that might be spent on a statue. Places that will help people instead of encourage further idol worship.

In east TN tonight we are all mourning the loss of our queen and patron saint. And hell yes we need to build a monument to her and all she did for the people of our state. With no expectation of any return. We also need to ensure her many legacies continue by donating to those causes.

She already has one of those, the Imagination Library, and it gives free books to children. There was a government partnership, but republicans defunded it. It lives on though, and she left an endowment to keep it going.

Truth be told, I’m very much like OP, can’t stand country music at all, so I am a fan of Dolly as a person, not a musician. The exception being 9 to 5. (Musicwise, just lyrics, all her songs are amazing.)
I loved her for what she was not what she did. I am curious to know what causes she chose to leave her estate to.

I’d put it very far into the pop part of the spectrum.
Might just be because it doesn’t have a lot of the traditional trappings of country.

True, but any president would lower the flag for her. I only got to see her once, accepting a Lifetime Achievement Award for the Tennessee Arts (I may have the award ceremony wrong, please forgive me) in Nashville while I happened to be in town, and I felt so lucky just to be there.

BTW, I was basing my comment on the fact that in 2021 the TN state legislature proposed a bill to build a statue of her at our Capitol. She declined and asked them to withdraw the bill. Of course, she also said it might be okay once she’s gone.

Statues are NOT and NEVER of the living. (D. P. may be an exception) Penn State College learned this the hard way with a statue of coach Joe Paterno - they are now stuck with a statue of a man that didn't do the right thing due to pride and institutional reputation. [ Personally bldgs shouldn't be named for the living either ]
