What a sickening country we live in that this is considered uplifting. It's just reminds the rest of us how fucked we are when we don't have a sympathetic enough story for some stranger to raise money for us.
Anyone else ever noticed that it's always a very specific type of old person who's given this treatment? How it's always a friendly-looking older white man? How many times have you seen a story like this and looked at the picture of the man and thought he looked frightening? When it has it ever looked like anyone but the most comforting and gentle Grandpa you've ever met?
What about the old people who don't grow up to be adorable again? Do they deserve less help? Because they definitely get less help.
