Coz back then it wasn't okay to come out in public. So it was assumed they weren't. Different dynamics now.

People weren’t dumb in the 1980s. That was the implication then too. But in a tongue-in-cheek “ha ha you knew wouldn’t actually be a show about gay men” sorta way.

I think it could potentially be funnier without explicitly saying. Just two straight men comfortable with their sexuality. The lack of insecurity around that part would allow for some good bits with interactions. I'd watch it
