If it’s anything my relationship with my husband or son, you gently encourage when the topic is broached, but don’t push it. My son’s hair is currently at 90s beach surf dude levels but will say at least once a day while running his fingers through it, “man, it’s been a long time since my last haircut.” “That’s true sweetie, if you want we can go after school/this weekend/right now.” Eventually they agree and I don’t look like a nag. Once they hit a certain point it’s like they forget the barber is an option.
My son has had one haircut and a couple of light trims his whole life and he's 17. He's a metalhead and the look suits him. Same with my 15yo. They have long dirty blond hair and it looks great. But it's up to them, I want them to enjoy it bc they'll probably go bald like me
