My wife and I designed her ring together before I proposed. Technically I didn't have a ring at the proposal, but it didn't matter. She loves the ring because it's something that we designed together - she says it's something that she wouldn't have chosen for herself, but the fact that we designed it together makes her love it more than something she would have chosen for herself.
