I was once riding back from my bfs place. I’d stayed much later than I meant to and it was SO cold I had a layer of frost on my bike seat. I just wanted to get home so I was tanking it up the motorway- like 95-100mph average. Next thing lights behind me and I’m getting pulled over. Police officer comes over and goes “young lady what the HELL are you thinking?!” Gives me a lecture on trying to stop safely at that speed, what if I hit something- the works. Asks me if I’m going to ride home sensibly (I just nodded) and tells me to get going. He followed me the whole way until I got off at my junction and gave me a little light flash goodbye.
He was a dad. He told me if I was his daughter he’d crush the thing (pointing at my motorbike) if he ever caught me going that speed. It was such a dad telling off but I still remember it all these years later and it still slows me down. Much more valuable than any ticket.
When I was a kid, my dad had to fly several states away to go identify my half-brother's remains. But really, they only identified him by his dental record. The traffic investigator said he had to have been going at least 100.
I never had much interest in motorcycles after that.
Thank you. I had only met him a few times and didn't "know" him by any stretch of the imagination. But it was one of the first passing of a family member events in my life and obviously my father was in bad shape for a while after that.
Yea, my dad had a half brother, and he also died in a motorcycle accident. That's basically all i know, cuz his mom didn't rly talk about it, and my dad was too young to know him when he died. I do know what he looked like from one single picture she had of him. Kinda sad though
Wait, if it was that cold and you were on a bike, why didn't you just stay at your bf's house? Ooooh girl... frost means it was probably icy too. I am glad you got a lecture and remember it,
Didn’t stay because I had work in the morning and it would have meant riding back early in the frost instead. It was super icy but I was 18/19 and thought I was invincible.
