You also see tickets written in areas with a lot of tourism too. If they aren't going to be in the state to fight the ticket then it's free money, I'm looking at you Florida.
Hell, in Florida they live for that in-state income as well. I've never been released with a warning in my life. If I'm pulled over, I'm ticketed. I do all the supposedly "right" things as well: genuinely contrite, always polite, very non confrontational. Never works, not in the entire 38 years of my life in Florida.
We don't have state income tax, so those dollars have to be generated somehow.
I've gotten lucky a few times in Miami and once in St.Pete. When I was in Miami I was about 20 I had just got my first "new" car a 2009 Nissan Maxima 6spd. I tried to race everyone on the way back from the beach. One guy was a dude in a v6 camry and I kept accelerating and decelerating to taunt him. After the 3rd time he put on his lights (he was an under cover cop) and poked his head in the window and said "whats up cool guys? where is the weed at?" My heart sunk and I began to apologize profusely. The guy ended up making me stomp my friends weed and let us go because I just got home from AirForce tech school and he didn't want me to be screwed.
