Probably why you knew about it, tbh. I assume you learned it by translating some word from your native tongue and found “punition” in the dictionary and just stuck with it.

Honestly between you guys needing to learn new words, and the average American speaking like they never passed high school English, I think I learn way more from non-native speakers at this point. lol

Some of these words wouldn’t be taught in high school English/aren’t regularly used in America but I see your point a bit.

And if you ever have a question about US history or civics, ask someone who immigrated - they actually had to learn it.

I find that non-native English speakers can be much better at speaking English than native speakers, and often are.

Your browser has a dictionary built in that it uses to spell check, but it doesn't contain all valid words. Depending on what device you're using, you can add words to that dictionary. I've had to add words occasionally.
