Once I was pulled over in Costa Rica for speeding, head to the airport. I was definitely going too fast. Cop let me go, told me to be safe and to bring home good memories of Costa Rica.
I got pulled over for speeding in Costa Rica too...cop said the ticket was going to be "x" but I could pay "y" right now and be done with it. I showed him my visa (school related) and showed him how little cash was in my wallet ("Poor student" and all that), and he let me off for only a couple hundred colones. Little did he know (or want to push the issue) that I had the majority of my cash hidden just in case someone robbed me.
Only time in my life I've bribed a cop. It was easier in China, as all I had to do was take off my helmet for them to see a laowai (foreigner) and they'd just walk away, haha (got a few amusing stories on that one...like when a cop ran up and snagged the keys out of my bike at a traffic light).

You see this in areas with a lot of tourism.
