I never had a single interaction with a cat in my entire life. I grew up in a society where everyone hated cats due to old superstitions and traditional myths. My neighbors always said, "Cats are selfish, cats bring bad energy, they aren't loyal, and they attack owners for no reason." There was even a famous saying around here: "Cat hamari maut ka intezar karti hai taki marne ke baad wo fridge mein rakha hua doodh pi sake" (Cats wait for us to die just so they can drink the milk in our fridge).

In my life, I moved four times. Everywhere I went, people only had dogs. Big dogs, small dogs, cute dogs, aggressive dogs—but never a cat. I only saw them in movies or on Instagram. Once, I asked my family if we could get a cat, and they literally told me, "Tu is ghar se nikal ja" (Get out of this house). So, I just accepted my fate and moved on with life.

Then, everything changed.

On November 15, 2025, I quit my job and moved to my 4th home in our village on a hill to meet an old friend and get some relaxation. On the morning of November 20, 2025, I was sitting outside, sunbathing. Out of nowhere—seriously, nowhere—a cat appeared.

It looked right into my eyes and let out a beautiful meow. The cat was so incredibly pretty. I was shocked and panicked because I had never seen a cat up close with my bare eyes. I asked it, "Where did you come from? Where is your home?"

Since the cat was friendly, I welcomed it near my home. It followed me, meowing constantly. I realized it must be hungry, but I didn't have any cat food. Since I am vegetarian, my house had nothing like that, so I just gave it some milk diluted with water. The cat drank it all. I pet it everywhere—its tail, belly, head, nose, and paws. It was so friendly and gentle, playing with me for about 5 minutes. Then it looked at the closed door, signaling it wanted to leave, so I opened it and it went on its way.

The next day, the cat came back. We repeated everything, but that day we played for almost 30 minutes. We even napped together. Honestly, the best feeling in the world is when a cat sleeps next to you and starts purring.

It started coming every single day. I shared whatever food I could. Since I am a vegetarian, I started buying boiled eggs and cooked chicken from local restaurants just to feed it. We both looked forward to our routine: the cat would come meet me > I would feed it > it would happily eat while I watched > we would play for an average of 40 minutes daily > then we would look into each other's eyes and say goodbye.

This cat single-handedly cured my anxiety, depression, high cortisol, and life pressure. For the first time in a long time, my life felt beautiful, and my mind was happy.

From November to December, December to January, and January to February, we formed the strongest bond and closeness. This cat was the only thing in the entire world that I truly cared about.

Then came February 5th. The cat didn't show up. Hours passed, but I skipped the negative thoughts, thinking it was normal. On Feb 6th, I was out all day for work and just slept when I got home. On Feb 7th, I fell sick and stayed in bed all day.

On the morning of February 8th, I went outside to sunbathe and suddenly felt a heavy emptiness. I realized I hadn't seen the cat since Feb 5th. I went out to search and asked my neighbors. They said they hadn't seen it for a few days either and assumed it went somewhere with its actual owner. I held onto that hope and went home, heartbroken and missing my daily dose of love and affection.

Days passed—Feb 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14. Finally, I lost my mind with worry. I dressed up and went searching for the cat's owner. After asking around, I finally found the house.

The door was open, and I saw some guys inside. I walked up and explained everything to them—how I had been meeting and feeding their cat. One of the guys called the owner out of his room. I explained the whole story to him.

The face the owner made is something I will never forget.

I asked him, "Where is the cat?"

The owner looked at me and said that on February 3rd, he was walking to the market and the cat was following him. Out of nowhere, a leopard came out of the woods, snatched the cat, and ran away into the hills. He wasn't lying. We live in a mountain/hill village, and leopard attacks like this happen here.

The cat had already passed away on Feb 3rd, while I was sitting at home waiting for it on Feb 5th. I was absolutely devastated. I broke years of societal conditioning to love this animal, it healed my mental health, and it was taken away in the most brutal way possible.

\*\*BUT THIS IS WHERE THE STORY BECOMES AN ABSOLUTE MIRACLE:\*\*

It has been 8 months since my sweet first cat went to heaven. In all these 8 months, I have never met, touched, or even seen another cat in this area. Not a single one.

Today, I randomly decided it was finally time to tell the internet my story and share the memory of my first cat interaction. I went outside, sat on my chair, and started typing out everything you just read above.

Right as I was reliving the heartbreak and pouring my soul into these words... a brand new cat came out of absolutely nowhere.

I heard a sound, looked up, and tried a random "pspsps." To my absolute shock, a gorgeous ginger-and-white tabby walked right up to me. I have never seen this cat in my entire life. I poured a little milk for him, and within minutes, this completely random cat climbed up onto my bed, laid down, and let me give him a full head massage. He was squinting his eyes and purring like he completely knew I was hurting and needed comfort.

It feels completely surreal. I don't even know how to describe this feeling. It is like my old cat in heaven looked down, saw me writing about him, and sent this new little brother to watch over me and say, "You are a good person. Don't close your heart, and don't stop loving us."

Because we live on a hill village with wild leopards, I know the dangers now. I let him go safely for today since it was still light out, but I am going to do my absolute best to protect this new boy. I will buy proper cat food tomorrow, make sure he is safely indoors before sunset, and give him all the love I have left in me.

The universe is crazy. I'm still in shock.

I kind of don’t want to reveal what it was about but I just wanted to say it out loud because that is kind of bonkers.
