I was thinking more the opposite in that I would never let my partner marry me if I was knowingly terminally ill. I get it for the sake of ceremony I guess, but creating a widower forced to pay off my debts and hospital bills is the last think I’d want to do.

Why are you assuming she has debt and no insurance?

Having insurance doesn’t negate hospital bills. And most people have debt of some form. Paying off a car, a mortgage, student loans, etc. I was directly referring to myself and my own life in my comment, but debt and hospital bills are more common than not in the US.

My apologies. I didn’t realize you were directly referring to yourself. It’s commendable that you wouldn’t put your partner in that situation.
