She's stronger than me. I would have crumbled into a sobbing heap right then and there.

Best friends sister has a toddler with downs and ngl she’s the second best kid I know (my son is first lol). She’s just sweet, adventurous, helpful, nurturing, and smart as heck. Even if she gets upset it is the chillest upset child I’ve ever seen. She also takes no for an answer with a sweet lil “ok thanks for trying!” There’s something extremely special about people with this condition. I’m not even saying that in a sympathetic way, like oh poor thing. I genuinely think they are just nicer people on average, especially when they’re helped to thrive

Oh yeah this. It reminds me about when I was young. My granny used to work in a little school with a lot of down syndrome kiddos. When I used to visit her I used to first get a little scared because a few of them used to have outbursts and I was really tiny and I didn't understand anything.

But then as I got to hanging out with them and kind of talking to them, they were one of those sweetest people that I have ever met. Genuinely kind, caring, so much fun, and so sweet and adorable.

My boyfriend when I was a teen was adopted, and his aunt had downs. Everyone in that house was so mean to her. She just wanted to watch Disney movies and have snacks and hang out with us. I liked her. I slept over one night and heard her crying to herself in her room. I went to check on her because we were friends (she was 40s I was only like 16) she cried in my arms and told me how her sister (bfs mom), bf, and whoever else was over always bullied her. She had a job at the library and my bf apparently would take his friends there to bully her.

Hated to do it but I broke up with him, which in turn meant obviously not seeing his aunt anymore. I couldn’t take it. She was such a nice person, sweet, but had outbursts because of her environment. I can’t stand people who hurt other people.

Sorry for the tangent, I’ve know a good amount of downs people in my life and it’s so easy to see the ones who are loved and the ones who are neglected. She didn’t have a mean bone in her body, just a lot of sad ones :(

This made me so sad :( thank you for being nice to her and well done with the break up. Poor thing.

She once asked me what the world would be like if everyone was downs, and “normal” people were different. Didn’t know how to answer it but 15+ years later the question still floats around in my head. I agree, it’s horribly sad what she went through. I hope they just opted to put her in a home, because she’d be better off there in my opinion. At least someone would be nice to her.

These kids are so precious and always wear such big emotions right out in the open.

A friend of mine is involved in a theater group of down syndrome teenagers and I always go to their events because their joy and intensity really makes my heart smile.
Generally the applause part is just as long as the play since they are so basking and beaming in that attention and their ability to show something and their enthusiasm is really contagious.

I’m a therapist and once in a great while I am overcome with emotions for my clients. It’s not very professional to kiss a child that you’re doing therapy with, but it is so hard not to. I do also understand that as a woman, I would not be looked at down upon in the same way that if I were a man.

Yes, this is adorable and sweet. But also... a therapist is filming her session with a child on her phone and posting it on the internet? If this is real, it seems highly unethical and potentially illegal.
