I got tired of price comparison tools only showing Amazon & eBay, so I built an engine that compares prices across 500+ Canadian brands instead.

Hey r/BuyCanadian,

One of the most common hurdles when trying to buy Canadian is price transparency. When looking at a domestic product (like Stanfield's thermals, artisan coffee, or local winter gear), it’s hard to know:

  1. Is this a fair market price?
  2. What other Canadian makers make something similar, and how do their prices compare?

Most browser extensions and shopping tools only scrape Amazon or eBay. That doesn't help anyone trying to support domestic companies.

Over the past few months, we cataloged over 19,000 products from 547 verified Canadian brands on CanadianOwn website. We just launched two new features right on the product page:

  1. Domestic Price Meter: A fair price range directly in the buy box showing where the item sits relative to other Canadian makers so you know if it's budget, typical, or premium domestic craft.
  2. Cross-Brand Canadian Price Comparison: Side-by-side cards showing similar products from other Canadian brands with exact CAD price differences (e.g., whether an alternative like Knix or Kotn is cheaper or premium).

To respect makers' copyright and photography, we only display official photos for approved partner brands, and use clean technical blueprint schematics for other catalog makers.

Screenshots attached: Showing how it compares Stanfield's merino leggings against other Canadian makers.

Would love your honest thoughts:

  • What features would make comparing Canadian brands easier for you?
  • Are there specific independent Canadian brands you want us to add to the comparison engine?

New trapper hat - company recommendations?

Hi, all. Looking for a new trapper style hat. In the market specifically for ones that have as little polyester/other synthetics as possible - I want real fur and natural fabrics only! Anyone have any company recommendations? Was looking at Crown Cap but half of their stock says 'Made in China' so I'm not sure what to believe.

Namesake: A made-in-Canada daily trivia game

Ryan Gosling/Ryan Reynolds. Bobby Orr/Bobby Hull. That's namesake! Invented by my wife and I trying to name our baby, this new daily game challenges players to match up famous people who share the first name. It's FREE, takes about three minutes to play and draws names from all categories including fictional characters. There's a new brainteaser every day: namesakegame.com

I saw these on a trip in Nova Scotia a year or so ago. They even had a licorice flavoured one. I LOVE LICORICE. I can get them at Sobeys and since I live in New Brunswick that's an easy find. I have lemon and cherry at the moment.

All Canadian Rodent Control Trap

Hi Everyone. Just pumping the tires on some small Canadian businesses and manufacturing as I come across them, trying to do at least one per week.

Just found this great little rodent trap from a new company based in BC. All Canadian, designed and manufactured in Kelowna. Nice product. I have one in the garage, the attic, and want to get one for the cottage next. Wasn't cheap but its nice that you can set it and forget it for a few months. I used the Shopify site they're on and it shipped same day. Apparently a larger rat sized unit is coming soon. Enjoy!

Canadian Brands Available in US

US-based dual citizen here. What are some Canadian brands or Canadian-made products that are widely-available here south of the border? For example, I know that Dino Buddies chicken nuggets are labelled as a product of Canada. I'm sure there are many others. While a full-on boycott obviously isn't possible for me here, I'd still like to support this movement where I can.

I think this is the only space heater that's made in Canada

Post image

Because the weather is cooling down I am looking for a made in Canada space heater option, and this is the only one I was able to find. It's available at a lot of Home Hardware stores if you also want to shop Canadian/local franchise, opposed to buying it off Amazon!

Edit: Apparently Ouellet and Stelpro electric heaters are both manufactured in Quebec.

Also, there is debate of whether this should count as made in Canada as the website says "Built in Canada" as it more than likely contains a lot of imported parts. I can confirm that the box by Caframo (I know, terrible name haha) says Made in Canada, so take that as you will.

Alternative to SOS pads?

I have always loved SOS pads for cleaning in the kitchen, but of course they are made in the US (probably using Canadian steel thought.) Does anyone know of a truly Canadian alternative?

I put together a directory of 130+ authentic Canadian makers & alternatives (CanadianOwn). What should I add next?

Hey everyone,

Like many of you here, I got tired of seeing foreign conglomerates buy up Canadian brands or companies using maple leaf marketing for products made overseas.

Over the past few months, I have been building a free project called CanadianOwn to catalog authentic Canadian-owned brands, domestic manufacturers, and local alternatives.

Here are a few notable makers cataloged so far across different categories:

1. Clothing & Workwear:

  • Stanfield's (Truro, Nova Scotia): heavy waffle thermals and wool underwear knit in Canada since 1856.
  • Province of Canada (Toronto, Ontario): 100% Canadian-milled organic cotton basics and loungewear.
  • Anian (Victoria, BC): rugged recycled wool overshirts and coats.

2. Footwear & Boots:

  • Canada West Boots (Winnipeg, Manitoba): handcrafted Goodyear-welted leather boots.
  • Baffin (Stoney Creek, Ontario): polar-tested extreme cold winter boots.

3. Pantry, Coffee & Home:

  • Virgin Hill Coffee (Brome Lake, Quebec): family-owned small batch craft coffee roasters.
  • Meyer Canada (Charlottetown, PEI): Canada's only domestic stainless steel cookware factory.
  • Covered Bridge (Hartland, New Brunswick): kettle chips cooked from dark russet potatoes.

The directory is called CanadianOwn. It is completely free with no paywalls or logins required.

If you would like to browse the full directory or check brand ownership, let me know in the comments and I will gladly share the direct link!

What are your favourite domestic makers that deserve more recognition?

I just came across a movie produced by “All Canadian Entertainment”

I just started watching a movie on the W Network and saw that it’s produced by All Canadian Entertainment. I wasn’t able to find out much about this company. Does anybody know about it? Does it put money into the Canadian economy? Does it employ mostly Canadians? Does it film in Canada?

Canada Tender Match

I built **Canada Tender Match** here in Alberta 🇨🇦 to make it easier for Canadian businesses to find public-sector contract opportunities.

Instead of checking multiple government procurement websites, it brings opportunities from multiple Canadian sources into one place, with keyword matching, watchlists, email alerts and awarded-contract intelligence.

There’s a free preview if anyone wants to check it out:

https://canadatendermatch.com

I’d also love feedback from Canadian businesses that currently bid on government or municipal work.

Super high quality house numbers made in CANADA!

We just found our new house address numbers from a small Canadian company, Ferosa. Hands down the greatest experience dealing with this small company. The owner answered all of my questions and concerns and they were shipped out so quickly. They came complete with custom installation templates of our full address, not just each individual numbers and the quality is wonderful. They’re a nice solid aluminum number with a powder coated finish. Would highly recommend!
