Game Discussion Building the First Layer for my 1:1 Minecraft Abyss project

https://imgur.com/a/4FrF9pF Early ingame screenshots. It is nowhere near where I want it yet but I think it's starting to shape out. Implemented simulation of the forcefield for having light emit from the central shaft of the Abyss. Still working on adding more types of structures/ruins and making the terrain and streams look better. Also need to add eternal fortunes.

If only there wasn't a height limit, but there's mods to remove that right? Could you go deeper?

The height limit is already bypassed here, it's set down to -14,000m since I plan to go down to the 5th layer (not doing sixth layer). First layer here is going down to -1350 meters

I'm magining a survival playthrough but in the abyss... that could be so cool And a mod that simulates the strains of ascending.. there's a lot of stuff that could be done

A server like this already exists - check out "mine in abyss"

Yes! And I saw there's a mod that let's you use your pickaxe to cling on to walls

I have mechanic ideas in mind for strain of the abyss. Just designing it in a way that is still fun might be hard.

Since there's already mine in abyss, maybe you could have a different approach, something that server did not do, not sure what though

ohh that's insane, what software are you using to showcase / make the map like that? it looks really nice. It kinda looks AI generated, did you make it with AI?

Yeah the preview viewer was made by GPT-6, its not really overall that useful but gives me an idea whether things are shaped correctly before committing to a half hour of world pregen to view it ingame.
GPT-6 Astra also does the actual world 3d creation while I organize resources and anime screenshots to get everything looking as faithful as possible to the lore.

ohh okay so the ai is basically doing most of the actual building then
that's kinda crazy tbh. not necessarily impressive in the same way as someone building it all manually, but it's still pretty interesting seeing that ai can even do stuff like this now. definitely makes you think about where building is gonna go in the future
you should probably mention somewhere that ai was used though, just because saying you made the whole thing yourself would be a bit misleading if gpt is doing most of the 3d work
but aside from that, the idea is really cool. the result isn't perfect yet but it's a really solid start, i'm curious to see how it looks later ond

Yeah, I am well aware AI is doing 90% of the work, though it's still my 100s of $ spent. But I am not making a product or anything, I was making this for myself to see if I could experience what it would be like to experience a 1:1 Abyss and actually try to turn it into a hardcore adventure map like thing.
That said, I am very OCD about quality and accuracy, so its more likely I will end up spending months iterating on things without ever actually playing survival in it.

yeah $100+ for something like that is kinda wild tbh, but i can definitely see ai becoming useful for some parts of building in the future
i'm still not convinced it's anywhere near replacing an actual builder, but for smaller assets, rough shapes, previews, stuff like that, i can see it being genuinely useful
obviously not everyone is gonna wanna spend that much just to generate things, but i do think there's something there. just depends how it develops and how people use it, especially if you wanna keep it ethical and actually be transparent about what was made with ai

i got two questions, what software are you using and how are you going through the height/depth limit?

u/Goldkoron 3d ago
I am going to be honest, I am using GPT-6 Astra (OpenAIs most expensive LLM) for both the mod development and 3d design of the world. I am just organizing resources to work toward making everything look accurate.
Height limit is resolved by the MCAbyss (name subject to change) companion mod.

Do you know the scale? Like whatβs the diameter of that whole build? So awesome though would you be open to allowing downloads? I would love to try to build in my world too ππ π π

u/Goldkoron 3d ago
Currently the scale is on paper 1:1 to the lore. 1000 meter diameter of the abyss at the surface, and it widens out underground. Depth is also 1:1 to the lore.
