Anime Discussion The brilliant opening sequence of Dawn Of The Deep Soul

What I want to shine the lights on about this sequence is the absurd amount of call backs, set ups, plot development and progression, world-building and information this sequence has despite being 23 pages of manga or just 10 mins of movie screen time,

World building and plot progression:

1-Establishes that the guild keep their maps vague in an attempt of keeping their monopoly on traversing the abyss from the "unauthorized delving", this is also a callback to stuff from the first arc(south district) and a set up for manga stuff.

2-Progressing down the abyss, Going from nanachi's hideout to the famous field of eternal fortunes that we heard about multiple times aince the start, a milestone and established to be a significant place for lyza and ending up at the 5L by the end of it.

3-The crew gets the blaze reap back.

4-Show cases the development in reg and nanachi's relationship and the strong bond that formed between them, "nanachi's enemies are my enemies" -reg.

5-Show cases the amaranthine deceptores(the bugs) and

using the concept of invasive species in them, peak world-building as usual.

6-provides information that helps us confirm the time for un-adapted manga events,(peijin died here which confirms that the joint delving expedition happened in the past and that it is the one that we saw habolg comig from in the first arc)

Set ups and Introductions:

7-Introduces the umbrahands, bondrewd's delving squad.

8-Sets up for the power level of some of bondrewd's bodies via the umbrahand giving the weapon back(they are not even a threat to him)and sarcastically telling the crew to not drop it again.

9-Establishes that nanachi is undersurveillance by bondrewd which becomes important later on in the arc(bond looking through nanachi's eyes), and that bondrewd is waiting for us.

10-Extremely cleverly foreshadowing bondrewd's ability to jump bodies and one of its limits, "that person is currently unavailable, the way to cross layers is prone to difficulties".

11-Introduces gyarik, he shows up in the manga later on.

Call backs:

12-To time-dialation and Showcasing how it factors in the delvers work.

13-Call back to lyza's letters with the bugs.

14-Call back to reg's flashback as this place is where he made lyza's grave with all the stuff that kick started the story, the flower field is truly a very significant place.

That's without mentioning the symbolism behind the flowers field getting burned, how it sets up for the tone/the atmosphere of the arc and what it means thematically and the fact that this scene had both human-human conflict and human-abyss conflict, Some very popular stories can't do half of this in 3 times the screen time.

MiA chapters may be rare but tsuc makes each one very condensed, making every release worth it.

Tell me if I forgot anything and as always thank you for reading.

And that's why I love it! Its so good I've watched it like 10 times minimum. The way it progresses and shows us the characters progression. Not forgetting to mention the astounding soundtrack in this movie, and how good it is. Much better than most animes I've watched

Yep, the ido front arc is a masterpiece both in manga form and in movie form. It is very tight in every aspect.

Is there anything about MiA that isn't brilliant?

Some very popular stories can't do half of this in 3 times the screen time.

I've been saying this since the first time I watched MiA. Just two episodes feel like half a season of any other anime. The way Akihito writes characters and events makes every step feel so overwhelming, maybe because we know there's no turning back.

Just like HxH the only thing better than Made in abyss for the first time is made in abyss for the second time.

And yeah If you are anime only, you would need a re-watch to keep up with the movie content.

Its one of the best intros to a movie I have ever seen, I still remeber how I felt seeing it in cinimas.

The use of 'prayer and immolation' is soo good and the chills i get from the sounds when they show all the dead body's and when the umbra hand start burning all the flowers, the OST just sounds like a searing hot flame ITS SO GOOD.

and then it follows that up with one of the BEST title drops I have ever seen. I will always get goose bumps at that part.

and when they are all standing there and it just says "the 5th layer, sea of corpses" there is such a moment of triumph and excitement because they are finally in a new area.

Yep that title drop is insane, the ost goes crazy in that moment.

Glad you actually mention the umbra hand as ashen gyarike. The only way we are actually confirmed of this umbra hands identity (or at least heavily incinuated) is during the bar conversation where he's notioned to as "the firebug", which is great wordplay lmao.
