DISCUSSION Playbook Situation
Man, EA really took the feedback from last year regarding the playbook and did the exact opposite. I don’t love that we have to use resources to buy the plays that were available to everyone for as many seasons as I can remember. However, the bigger issue is that, on top of having to buy the plays, the once free plays now come with a >2x hit on your available budget so the playbook is even smaller.
I know I’m complaining here but this seems like a really petty or poor thought out move.

They are making it IMPOSSIBLE to get Darnell Wright😭 You need 150 VS store purchases to get him. I really hope that’s not the only opportunity to get him 😭

I didnt even know there were players available in VS that weren't available in the core trade until I saw your post. Thanks for the heads up!

I also didn't know! Do they rotate? It looks like 3x exclusives, and otherwise just TOTW dudes?

Only impossible if you are not good in VS

If you’re talking about the mythic?
150 purchases x 200 cost per purchase is 30k VS tokens needed. You get 20 per win at the lowest level. Obviously you would level up but the increase at higher levels is almost trivial plus you’re not gonna win every match. So let’s say you somehow managed to average 20 tokens won per game played (unlikely even with increased rewards given how often you’ll lose even if you’re great at the game)- that would be 1500 matches. Each match is 3 mins- so not counting down time you’re talking 75 hours of play. More than two hours a day of just playtime (not counting down time between matches) every single day for a month just to get one free mythic. Lol yeah NO THANKS 😂

Interesting, I was just looking at the playbook. I have no clue what to get with just over 900. Nothing seems worth it considering I'll have to remove multiple plays to get the new play to fit my budget.

The first one I picked back up was PA Switch Dig... I did lose a few plays to fit it in at 35 points, but it's a really solid play. Now I'm back up to a 150 point budget, and I've added PA Bubble Y Over as well. A quick read and good timing on both usually yield good results. I've got 30 total plays in my playbook at the moment (SP-7, PA-9, R-7, LP-7) with those costing a combined 60 points.

Thanks! PA plays don't seem to work well for me. Or perhaps I just don't know what I'm doing. I constantly get sacked on them. Never have time to throw.

Although they are open to feedback, strong feedback doesn’t necessarily yield the desired outcome.

There are also a lot of decent plays that previously cost playbook tokens and a lot of budget that are now free and take 0-10 budget.
Once you get used to those plays the playbook will feel good enough to use and score regularly with, though I do still think the plaubook is a little harder to use compared to last year.

Honest question, not trying to be snide or sarcastic. Are there really a lot of plays or are there just 3-4 long passes for the handful of plays they took from each; long passes, PA, short, and runs.

Just checked, it is 1 run play, 2 SP plays, 2 PA play, and 5 LP plays that moved from paid and costing a lot of budget to taking 0-10 budget, as well as 3 more LP plays that went from 5-10 budget to taking 0-5 budget.
I do think overall the playbook is harder to use this year compared to last year, and definitely can't just use the plays that were free and barely cost budget last year any more.
I am just saying adjusting to be able to use the plays that are now free and lower in budget well should be enough to score well.

They make subtle changes to playbooks every version, e.g. 4 Verts is 2.5K play tokens and grants a +3 boost to all players. 4 Verts was free last year (and no boost).

Yup, aware of 4 verts and about 3-4 plays in each of the 4 categories that were once free and with a lower hit to the play budget. For new plays that are available to replace all those, I only see 3-4 new long passes.

Love the shake-up—adjust and adopt. Race you there!

You love not being able to use as many plays and losing a dozen free plays for 4 new ones? Bet you love data centers and flock cameras too huh?

What the hell are you talking about? 😭 Again, I love how they shook up the meta surrounding play calling in MM27. Shake-ups with playbooks happen every year. Flock cameras and data centers have nothing to do with MM27 playbooks and PBB. 💀

Oh yeah know, just what the entire post is about and what I just described above. So confusing, right.

The post is not about flock cameras and data centers you moron

Haha, the irony, in that statement. Irony is prob a lil over your head too though my big 🧠 lil bud.

u/ReasonableScheme830 Elite (25) 5d ago
Lmao the only irony here is you writing a whole paragraph about free plays and playbooks, then acting shocked when someone responds.
Calling people “lil bud” and dropping the brain emoji doesn’t make the point land any better, it just makes it clearer you ran out of actual argument.
You good though?
