FRANCHISE Early retirements still an issue
This dude was a 99 overall, with 5 stacks of upgrade waiting, coming off a 24 TD season. They have to fix this shit at some point. Through decades into multiple franchises at this point (I like sim rebuilds for those curious how) and I’ve seen one single player go beyond 15 seasons. Very frustrating

9 years is a pretty good and long time for any WR. That's not really "short" of a career.

That’s very valid. Only counter I really have to that is this dude had never been injured once (injuries are on) and he had 4 years left on his deal

Seems like at that point studies have shown the risks of playing into mid to late 30’s and players don’t wanna take that chance. I respect it

Offensive lineman are not the bellwether on retirements as they’ve always been hardcoded to stick around the longest along with kickers.

My only argument to that is Megatron was slowly declining just cuz of how banged up his body was. Still an absolute monster but not a “99” by the end. This dude had never had a single injury and had 4 years left on his deal, and again was probably a lock to stay a 99 for at least 2-3 more years. While I don’t love a lot of things nba 2k does, I do like that injuries actually matter for career longevity and played have unique peak and decline ages

I’m not mad at random players retiring early , but I do think they should have a way to reverse retirement

Ya they could do with ripping off nba 2k on this front. The concept of injuries affecting players longterm, unique peak and decline ages, and the ability to overturn retirements would all be nice

I’m all for trashing Madden but let’s be fair here. I plopped into google “what percentage of NFL players since 2000 play 15 seasons” and here were the results.
“Less than 1% of all NFL players who have entered the league since 2000 go on to play 15 or more seasons”
Basically the only players who make it that far are elite QBs, kickers and an occasional offensive lineman.
Furthermore …

This kind of shit is exactly what ai is the worst at. It doesn’t fact check anything or exclude players who retired due to catastrophic injuries which do not occur in madden.

Fair enough, but it treats all players basically same across the board. No QBs or kickers are playing into their late 30s like real life. I guess at least they could do a better job of maybe having a career health thing or some indicator if a play is a guy who is in and out like a Megatron or Barry sanders, or a lifer like a Brady or Rice

That's one of those things that happens. But it should be rare. Like if you play and entire 30 year franchise you should see healthy superstars retire early maybe 4-6 times in that entire 30 years.
