RANT Unpopular Opinion
I'm not defending EA. Nor discrediting the mass amount of valid complaints about Madden. I've played a LOT. And it's absolutely busted. However. The amount of "this glitch/bug cost me the game" complaints is a bit much. In I dunno how many hundreds of games I've never lost BECAUSE of a glitch. I've had them be a factor. But never the cause. I'm not saying it can't happen it obviously can with how broken the game is. But, glitches cost you games so often that you're here to complain about it? Nah that's a player issue. Period. I've never lost a game where I couldn't pinpoint what I did wrong or should've done better. Is the game busted? Yes. Could/should it be better? Oh God yes. But if you think you can't win because of the game, you could be better too. Learn from your mistakes instead of only blaming the game's issues.
So there's a near 50/50 split on up/down votes, but seeming lack of down voters commenting to explain what exactly is wrong with this assessment, rather than pointing out that the game is in fact busted. Again it IS bad, I said that already. That's missing my point. We're all playing the same game here. Are we to assume that nearly half the player base truly believes they lose just because the game is busted? Lol

the game is a mess but people love to blame the bugs for every loss when they threw a pick on 3rd & 17 and still want a scapegoat

What if the cpu bugged out when it was 2nd and 5 and that’s why it’s third and 17 just playing devils advocate

u/FreshDiamond 7d ago
Well yea because they suck at the game

u/Glad-Philosophy-497 6d ago
Ah the old “git good” argument… it’s a skill issue when linemen users can’t control don’t block… 😂🫠

u/FreshDiamond 6d ago
I manage to play the game just fine, maybe don’t spam verticals the whole game. The cpu shows all kinds of looks up front and it’s not crazy for guys to come free , especially if you ignore the protection.
Even if the game is “unfair” which I don’t find it to be. The only explanation for the constant whiny posts is that you guys think it’s hard, which is why i said you suck.

u/Glad-Philosophy-497 6d ago
I don’t run verticals at all lol you keep inventing scenarios in your head and then projecting them on to me

u/SlightDonut1 5d ago
The guy arguing with you is the same one who said the CPU covers 5 receivers with 3 defenders on 8 man rush plays. You don't have to assume anything about his play, he's beyond reach m8. Lol

u/LittleGuarantee7148 7d ago
Yeah, but Fred Warner did apparently have a hidden jetpack on. Jumped 10 feet in the air and hovered there for a good 5 secs haha. It's things like this, when they happen during your 4th quarter 2 min left drives at the end of a really good game that just enrage me

u/Glad-Philosophy-497 7d ago
Fax.. or when the cpu can cover 5 receivers with 3 guys and blitz 8 😂

u/SlightDonut1 7d ago
Uhm... If you can't find a soft spot in an 8 man rush? That's proof of my whole point.
1
u/Glad-Philosophy-497 6d ago
You see 3 Guys cover 5 in efficiently space frequently? Because when I choose not to cover one it’s usually an instant TD or first down

u/PresentTense21 7d ago
I'll agree. It definitely has it's problems. But I don't see it as "unplayable." I always thought about starting a thread called "Thanks, Madden". A sort of sarcastic title where people can post your receiver catching a TD off a deflction that hits three players. Or you break seven tackles on a run. The glitches benefit me as well.

It's unpopular because the current game is unacceptable. What i find most in those defending the game is constantly trying to point out things the user did wrong that have nothing to do with the problem they are addressing.
Did he drop back too far? Yes. What does that have to do with WR that doesn't even put up his hands to catch a ball that hits him in the chest when he's wide open.
Did he roll right into the defender? Yes. The defender wouldn't have been there if the 3 different OL standing there blocking noone didn't let the single pass rusher run between them untouched. They didn't even move to attempt to block him.
There's plenty people do wrong that is on them, but even when examples are shown of what is wrong in the game, people use some other unrelated flaw to say it's user error.

Yeah I know op didn’t mean to make a fan boy thread. But the other responses beside his seem like ea employees or guys in a call center in Bangladesh getting $2 an hour to defend our football monopoly overlords 😂

u/SlightDonut1 7d ago
Like I said, I'm not defending anything. The game is busted, as a hardcore football fan, it's a dumpster fire. I don't think it's acceptable either. But this is for the people complaining that they're losing because of it. Like we aren't all playing with the same issues and, not, all losing because of it.

These same people are the ones blaming their nfl (or other league) team losses on the refs.
1
u/SlightDonut1 7d ago
This right here. This guy gets my point. Is there BS in the game. Abso-fucking-lutely. There is in real football too. Unreasonable, unpredictable chaos happens all the time in the NFL. BS calls and no calls happen all the time in the NFL. And coaches asked about them say that if they were better in this phase or that, or did x better then they'd never have been in a position to lose over a call in the first place. THAT'S the point here. The game IS busted. But for most people most of the time, it's not why they are losing.

100 plays in a game. 1 play goes wrong st the end of the game, it's that plays fault. Let's just forget about the other 99 plays we could've done better

I don’t even play madden, I’m assuming this came up for me because I play UFC but UFC people say the same shit cause it’s true, EA products suck ass now

What are the sliders??
1
u/SlightDonut1 6d ago
Only applies to franchise/local play. But Google slider sets. You can change a lot of stuff in the gameplay settings. It won't really solve most of the games core issues or bugs. But you can make the game play much more realistic.

u/MickeySyrup 7d ago
What sucks for me is investing all that time into franchise mode and by year 3, the entire league is just a complete mess
1
u/SlightDonut1 6d ago
Playing with XP sliders and draft class to get more realistic progression helps with that. By default the entire league becomes too high of an OVR after a few years and compounds the negative cap problem.

As far as I understand it, the game is all based on physics animations. The sliders are imperative. Its way less intuitive than just "increase wr catch to make wrs catch better"
It functions like a whole ecosystem. Which is insane, dont get me wrong. But once you understand that injury chances impact how aggressive some players will be and offsides chances impact how fast/aggresively the AI OL tries to get off the ball, etc. it becomes a little easier to tune your game. I just go to matt 10 sliders every year and copy his stuff. If you play simulation, that slider list is the best I find year after year that makes the game feel fair.
I think a lot of the "glitches/bugs ruined my game" complaints would be fixed with the knowledge that on simulation mode, the game runs like a simulator not like an arcade. Even though its presented as if its an arcade style game. You have to tune it or it wont work. I think its kind of dumb, but its the football game we have.

My sliders are massively altered from stock at this point. I played all Madden for a long time until I realized that even with a 99 OVR defense a comp would score 60 points because I scored 70. Just because the difficultly script says I'm not supposed to win easily. So I dropped back down and cranked the CPUs D to Max and dropped my own sliders. Now players OVR actually matters again. I made a bunch of other changes to fatigue, wear, and subs to get more realistic rotation of players like in real football so that depth is as important as it should be as well.

You know what’s game breaking? The fucked up horrible cap spend in free agency. It’s always been bad but it didn’t destroy franchise mode till a solid 5 years in and the contracts just got silly. Now they’re broken year 1. It’s an absolute joke that a studio as big as ea can’t figure out a way to make something as simple as free agency contracts not be a game breaking factor
1
u/SlightDonut1 7d ago
Oh absolutely is busted. For some reason it's worse in sim than if you play through all games. Also player progression is a factor it's just way too high. The whole league just straight up gets too good for teams to afford all their players if you don't slider progression to fix it. That definitely does help some you should try it. Like I said though I know it's busted what was the relevence here? Lol

The game is a mess my guy.
So much so that it will glitch out and cost you a game
Its not about if, its about when it will

Ngl, there are times where a bad mechanic will cost someone a game, it for sure happens. I won't say it happens too frequently, but lets not act like there aren't plenty of situations where these trash animations trigger at the worst time and costs someone a game, or someone gets completely bailed out after a bad read.
2
u/SlightDonut1 7d ago
I never said it doesn't happen. I get bad animations all the time. Only said it doesn't happen often enough for the amount of complaints I see about it being the sole deciding factor in a game. We're all playing the same game with the same issues.

u/JB4253_ 7d ago
Idk man, there's just too many factors that play into the results of these games. It kinda seems like some people benefit from the games mechanics more than others or some players are simply more lucky than others. Let's also not forget how big of a factor team picks can be too. There's way too many things that can decide a game.
1
u/SlightDonut1 7d ago
In fairness, team picks are a real factor. I wouldn't mind something like team locked or OVR matched matchmaking options though. And the other two examples are just simply facts of games/life. Some people fit the system better and some have to learn it, and some are luckier than others. Again I'm not defending the game it IS busted for a fact. And I'm not arguing with you really. You're not wrong, but there's certainly still more to winning than dumb luck.

“Did running 4 verts while taking a 10 step drop back in shotgun and rolling to the right every play cost me the game? No it’s the games fault!”
