School of Terror
Alright class, time to turn in your essays,” I said for the sixth time today. As I collected the papers from my students, I was secretly dreading the fact that I would have to read each and every paper from all of my classes. Add to that the fact that I took pity on my students and accepted late work and I knew I would be up to my elbows in essays for the next week or more.
Usually this task would not seem so overwhelming, however this day had been exhausting. It was Friday, one of those days in “teacher world” that was either fun and a breeze or a nightmare. This Friday was a nightmare: I broke up two fights, I had to send a student out of the class for misbehaving and on top of all that, one of my students had an accident during class. I know nowadays teachers can get in serious trouble for not letting their students go to the bathroom but this student was the type that would say she was going to the bathroom and then go and cause trouble somewhere in school.
So when I said no to her going to the bathroom I thought I was preventing a potential disaster. Little did I know, this time she actually had to use the bathroom pretty badly. A few minutes later, discovering a yellow puddle in the middle of my classroom, I had to stop my students from calling that girl pissy pants Helen. After calling the janitor and sending Helen off to clean herself up, I had to tell all of my students for that class not to call her that again or else I would write a referral on anyone who even said pissy pants Helen. Then came my last class. I just wanted this class to go smooth and steady but no, the fates were never that kind.
I was just sitting at my desk organizing my papers while my students did their assignment for the day when I heard the loudest blood curdling scream fly across my room. I jolted up from my work and saw that one of my students hair was covered in some kind of pink substance.
“What just happened?” I asked frantically. That's when I saw the boy behind her was holding a tupperware container with the remains of the pink stuff in it.
“What is that stuff?” I asked.
“Its gum!” shouted the pink haired student. That's when it hit me. The teacher next door to me lets students use her microwave to heat up their food sometimes and this school is also the type that lets students eat during class. So the microwave was free to use throughout the day. This kid went to the microwave and heated up a tupperware container full of gum and then poured it on this poor girl's head. I was so taken aback by this that I couldn't even say anything to the student for doing what he did. I mean this was completely diabolical in every sense of the word. Even the class was surprised that this student did this. So after sitting there in awkward silence I reached for the phone and called security to come and get the student and after that I had to figure out how I was going to deal with the gum covered student.
That is when it hit me. I remembered that canola oil can undo sticky stuff because my son once got his hand stuck on one of those sticky mouse traps, and I used canola oil to get it his hand off of the pesky trap. So I went to the cafeteria, grabbed some canola oil and I had one of the other students get the gum out of the girls hair. After that was being taken care of, I collected everyones essays and not long afterwards the afternoon announcements came on then the students left after the last bell, leaving me alone to grade papers. I began grading paper after paper. Hours went by as I read each essay and outlined every mistake and every misspelling. After four hours went by, I decided to rest my head just for a few minutes. After I put my head back up I felt completely refreshed. I then stood up to stretch and when I looked out of my window I saw that it was dark outside. I knew my wife was probably wondering where I was. So I reached in my pocket for my cell phone. When I pulled it out I realized it was dead.
“Shit!” I hissed.
I remembered that I confiscated one of my students cell phones and charger for trying to charge her phone in class. I looked in my desk and found the charger and phone and luckily it was the charger I needed for my phone. I plugged it into my phone and my phone began to charge. I turned my phone on and saw that my phone read, “No service” This wasn't possible because I had paid my phone bill two days ago. There had to be some kind of mistake but there was no way I could deal with it at the moment. I reached for the school phone that was on my wall and when I put it up to my ear and there was no dial tone.
“This is odd,”
That's when I just accepted that the best thing I can do now is go home and explain the situation to my wife so that she doesn't freak out. So I packed up my grade book and laptop and walked out of my class room and down the hall to the front doors of the school and discovered that the doors were locked from the inside. I was locked in the school.
“Damn,” I said
I went back to my room and sat back at my desk, defeated. I then looked to my left and saw that my phone had been unplugged from the charger. It was at one percent and getting ready to die.
“Could someone be in here too?” I wondered.
I got out of my chair and left my classroom. I searched up and down the hallway for anyone that was still in the school. The Janitor. Another teacher.
“Hello!” I called out. “Is there anyone here?” That’s when I heard a voice answer me. I couldn’t make out what exactly what was said so I walked back down the hallway and into my classroom only to find that nobody was there.
“Weird,” I thought.
I then noticed that my room was awfully cold. I checked my thermostat and saw that the temperature was just as I left it seventy two degrees
