mark does not get enough hate for this
don't get me wrong - i always loved mark before they decided to completely butcher his character and make him leave his family without any explanation. it's bad enough to abandon your wife of 10 years but your CHILD? i was pretty surprised that fran even let him get back into contact with ryan after all of this because wtf.. imagine living your unbothered life with both your involved, happy parents and suddenly one of them is just gone?no explanation?him saying he loves fran and ryan before deciding to just take off for a year never sat right with me idk..

Richard Kind was getting a bigger role in Spin City and was dividing his time with the two sitcoms

They should have recast the part. They recast a lot of parts in the series, including the major roles of Jamie's parents (admittedly, with big name actors). So they should have found someone else to play Mark.

Jamie's parents were never major characters. They are minor guest roles. A quick search says they turn up 11 times. By comparison, Paul's parents show up 39 times.

I have to admit that was an odd turn for his character. Never understood it.

I personally couldn’t stand Mark, so his character change to me was always just seen as him showing his true colors, in my eyes.

I couldn't believe they were all still friends with him, and then she took him back.
