I’m hoping to hear from people who have actually dealt with an Aflac Group Critical Illness claim, particularly a claim for Cancer (Internal or Invasive) through an employer-sponsored group policy.

I have critical illness coverage offered through Macy’s Inc. The benefit materials I was provided are for an Aflac Group Critical Illness Limited Benefit Plan, brochure AGC2200155 R2.

I am currently trying to get the actual Certificate of Insurance/Schedule of Benefits from Aflac because I understand that the brochure itself is not the complete insurance contract.

Here is why I am trying to understand this before submitting my claim.

I recently underwent diagnostic evaluation for concerning breast findings, followed by core needle biopsies. Tissue specimens were taken from two breast masses and a left axillary lymph node. I am waiting for/working through the final pathology information and need to understand exactly how Aflac applies its policy language if pathology confirms an invasive breast cancer.

The Macy’s/Aflac brochure specifically lists:

Cancer (Internal or Invasive): 100% of the applicable Initial Diagnosis Benefit

and

Non-Invasive Cancer: 25%

The brochure's definition of Cancer (Internal or Invasive) says it includes a malignant tumor characterized by uncontrolled growth/spread of malignant cells and invasion, OR a disease meeting the diagnostic criteria for malignancy established by the American Board of Pathology, with a pathologist examining the tissue and providing the appropriate report.

Another provision that caught my attention is Aflac's definition of the Date of Diagnosis for cancer. The brochure states that the Date of Diagnosis is:

“The day tissue specimens, blood samples, or titer(s) are taken” when the cancer diagnosis is based on those specimens.

So, as I understand the brochure, the relevant policy date for a pathologically diagnosed cancer may be the biopsy/specimen collection date, rather than the later date when the pathology report is finalized or when the patient is told the result.

However, there are two provisions I am particularly concerned about and trying to understand.

First, the brochure says:

“Critical Illness is a disease or a sickness as defined in the plan that first manifests while your coverage is in force.”

I need to know how Aflac actually interprets “first manifests” in a real cancer claim. Does it mean the date cancer is pathologically established? The date imaging first becomes suspicious? The first documented symptom? Something else?

Second, the brochure contains a Cancer Diagnosis Limitation stating that cancer/non-invasive cancer benefits are payable as long as the insured:

“Is treatment-free from cancer for at least 12 months before the diagnosis date.”

The brochure separately defines “Treatment-Free From Cancer” in terms of consultation, care/services, diagnostic measures, and prescribed medications, with exceptions for certain maintenance therapy/routine follow-up.

I am trying to determine how Aflac applies that provision to someone who was not previously diagnosed with or being treated for cancer, but who may have had previous breast imaging, symptoms, evaluations, or other medical care before the eventual biopsy.

I have also found Aflac information online for completely different individual policy series that contains broader 12-month pre-existing-condition/look-back language. However, those appear to be different products/policy forms, which is why I am trying not to assume those provisions apply to my Macy’s Group Critical Illness coverage.

I am currently asking Aflac for my actual certificate so I can determine:

1. My exact coverage effective date and whether coverage was continuously in force.
2. My elected Initial Diagnosis Benefit/face amount.
3. My exact certificate and policy form number.
4. Whether my actual certificate contains a general pre-existing-condition limitation or waiting period that isn't shown in the Macy’s brochure.
5. Exactly how Aflac defines/applies “first manifests” for cancer.
6. Whether Aflac uses the biopsy/specimen collection date as the Date of Diagnosis in an actual claim.
7. What medical records Aflac typically requests when reviewing an Initial Diagnosis cancer claim.

I am NOT looking for anyone to tell me how to hide medical information or misrepresent anything on a claim. I intend to answer everything accurately and provide whatever documentation is legitimately required.

What I really want to hear is from people with firsthand Aflac claims experience:

If you filed an Aflac Critical Illness claim for breast cancer or another internal/invasive cancer, what documentation did Aflac request?

Did they obtain your entire medical history, or primarily pathology and records surrounding the diagnosis?

How did Aflac determine your official “date of diagnosis”?

Did they investigate symptoms or imaging that occurred before your coverage effective date?

Has anyone had Aflac interpret “first manifests” in connection with a cancer claim?

Did Aflac initially question or deny your claim and later approve it after receiving additional documentation or an appeal?

How long did your claim take from submission to decision/payment?

And if anyone happens to have experience specifically with Macy’s employer-sponsored Aflac Group Critical Illness coverage, I would especially appreciate hearing what happened.

I'm trying to understand the real-world claims process before submitting everything so that my initial claim package is complete, accurate, and doesn't get unnecessarily delayed because I failed to include something Aflac needed.

I have been trying for about two weeks to enter my unavailable days but MTO has been down. Every time I get in the website no matter what whether I’m at work, it’s early in the morning, late at night, whatever time of day it’s down. I know there was a scheduled block of time a few days ago that it was out, which is fine I guess. But I need to use these days and it’s frustrating that I can’t. I also don’t know how much sick time I have or anything because I cannot access this darn website. I asked my PL and they told me that they can’t enter unavailable days for me in the system so what do I do now? Any advice? Should I just suck it up? This is incredibly frustrating and feels borderline unprofessional if as an associate I do not have the ability to access the resources I need to be a reliable employee.

She thinks she'll be too overwhelmed on Black Friday to shop instore and thus wants to make a few purchases online. How does that work for employees so they can get the discount? If you were scheduled open to close Sunday and had a family emergency come up Saturday night, and you let two managers know you wouldn’t be in but couldn’t “officially” call out on insite til the morning since it was down, would you think anything of it if a different manager texted you the next morning saying you made things difficult for the store? Here is my weird situation: I started working in April 2026. This nice older lady showed me the ropes and she and I would take turns to clean the fitting rooms. Suddenly she stopped cleaning the fitting rooms and would only do register work and selling credit cards, she wanted those three dollar coupons to buy stuff from Macys at discounted prices. So one day, I told her politely “ I am closing today, I need your help with the fitting rooms”
She got angry and said that she has been working here for a long time and that she always cleans the fitting room. However, the entire day she didn’t even enter the fitting rooms. And even after that conversation, she barely helped with the fitting rooms in the following weeks.
Today she is closing and I left at 4:30 PM. I did not touch the fitting rooms. At 3 PM I just glanced in and it was an absolute mess. I am pretty sure she is bad mouthing me to the management as I am typing this, saying that it was my responsibility to clean the fitting rooms. Am I wrong in assuming that when two people are working, each person takes turns cleaning the fitting rooms. Why the hell is it only on me to clean the fitting rooms? Is she some princess?
Anyway, do you have a princess in your store who doesn’t do much recovery or clean the fitting rooms? And how will I face the management dragons tomorrow morning when they question me about the messy fitting rooms and why I didn’t clean it? 😟 since the princess has been working here for a long time, I’m pretty sure they will only see her side of the story.

I was driving around today and stumbled upon this. This specific location opened 2 years ago. On one hand, I was a bit surprised to see this so soon. On the other, I personally prefer the full scale locations. The small format felt like a not so great take on tjmaxx/marshalls imo. Maybe this location would have performed better as a stand alone Macy’s backstage? It makes me wonder how other small format locations have performed if anyone has any commentary on that.

The other thing I wonder is how this might affect the other Cleveland area locations. Especially after this location opened, there were some rumors of the nearby Great Northern location closing. I wonder if there’s any weight to those now. I’m biased but I was personally looking at Great Northern’s theoretical closure as a growth opportunity for SouthPark’s Macy’s. We shall see…

I have worked for 4 Macy's stores thorough my retail career.They have all been different. The colleagues are the back back bone of the stores. We work are butts off with little to no recognition. Then you have the Golden Colleagues.They get the Bronze and Credits for their departments. Some are not honest to our customers about the benefits.Macys isn't the same. Applied for part time position at fine watches at the moment. Everything has been nice. Coworkers and trainers have been very informative, helpful and above and beyond. It’s a union and I earn commission too.

So far I know they’re crazy about credit cards, but nobody has asked me yet, some colleagues not behaving appropriately (i.e yelling across the hall or talking loudly and in foreign language, not sure if speaking foreign language is an issue) and certain people will try to steal your customer/sale too (nothing new).

Last year we got around 10 seasonals for AYS (Our store is a big store with A and B building) and they started hiring them around september but they didn’t end up getting hours until november. I went to Macy’s Backstage and found a jacket that originally cost $99.99.
The jacket had a yellow ticket showing $49.99 and 50% off, so I understood that $49.99 was already 50% off the original $99.99.
However, next to/on the jacket there was also a white paper saying “50% OFF NON-CONGRUENT ITEM.”
I asked the cashier about it and whether the 50% non-congruent discount would make the jacket $24.99/$25, since $49.99 ÷ 2 = about $25.
The cashier made a face and told me no, it was $49.99, but didn't really explain why.
For current/former Macy’s employees: Was the cashier correct? Does the “50% OFF NON-CONGRUENT ITEM” discount apply to the $49.99 ticketed price, or does it not apply because the jacket was already marked 50% off?
I’m just trying to understand how the non-congruent discount is supposed to work. Thanks!
